The Last of Us Season 2: New trailer reveals start date
The trailer also shows new characters
Attention series fans! We finally have news about one of the most anticipated series sequels of 2025 - "The Last of Us". A new trailer provides a foretaste of the second season of the HBO series and, above all, tells us the start month.
New characters for season 2
The trailer places a special focus on a new character. Abby, who is played in the series by "Booksmart" actress Kaitlyn Dever, plays a central role in the game "The Last of Us Part 2". This also appears to be the case in the second season of the adaptation.
The trailer also gives us an insight into the other new characters in the season. They include "Alien Romulus" star Isabela Merced as Ellie's friend Dina and "Westworld" actor Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. But of course Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel are not to be missed either.
Content and starting month
The second season only adapts part of the game "The Last of Us Part 2". This would provide material for further seasons of the end-time series. The second season begins five years after the end of the first season. After years of peace, Joel and Ellie are once again confronted with conflicts in the post-apocalypse.
Fans of the video game will probably recognize some of the set pieces in the trailer. For many, however, the announcement of the launch month is likely to have brought the greatest joy. At the end of the trailer, it is announced that the second season will start in April 2025.
Series tips for "The Last of Us" fans
If you enjoyed the post-apocalyptic world and emotional depth of the HBO series "The Last of Us", there are many other series that you shouldn't miss out on. In case you have to bridge the waiting time until April 2025, we have collected four more series tips for you here.
The Walking Dead
'The Walking Dead' is probably the classic end-time series and offers a similar atmosphere to 'The Last of Us'. Here, too, the focus is on the fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. In addition to the zombies in the series, however, human conflicts and relationships and survival in a destroyed society are at the center of the story. The series runs for eleven seasons with a total of 177 episodes. In addition, there are now several spin-offs with numerous other episodes.
The 100
"The 100" follows a group of young people who return to Earth 97 years after a devastating nuclear war to rebuild the remnants of humanity. Similar to "The Last of Us", the series examines the dynamics of groups in extreme situations and the question of how far you have to go to survive. Moral dilemmas and the development of relationships also play a central role. The US series ran for 7 seasons and, fittingly, ran for a total of 100 episodes.
Station Eleven
This lesser-known miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel and tells the story of a world that has been almost wiped out by a pandemic. As in "The Last of Us", it is once again about survival in a destroyed civilization and the rebuilding of human society. "" is characterized by a profound narrative style and emotional snapshots that focus on the loss and hope of the survivors. The series has a special narrative structure, as it deals with several time levels. It also repeatedly refers to characters and narrative threads before the apocalypse. "Station Eleven" tells its story in ten episodes.
Chernobyl
The successful HBO series "Chernobyl" also has a connection to "The Last of Us". Both series share the series creator and showrunner Craig Mazin. "Chernobyl" deals with the nuclear disaster of 1986 and paints a bleak picture of an event that changed the world forever. Like "The Last of Us", it is about the effects of a catastrophe. The series has won numerous awards from critics and has been equally well received by viewers. The mini-series tells its story in five episodes.
