Insidious 6 won't arrive in 2025 – But Darren Aronofsky's new film will
Darren Aronofsky's new film and Insidious 6 receive their release dates.
The horror series "Insidious" is still in demand and has a loyal fan base. It is no coincidence that another sequel was announced after "Insidious: The Red Door". It was originally scheduled for this summer. However, these plans have now changed.
New release date for Insidious 6
The release date for "Insidious 6" has been pushed back by a year. The studio Sony has now set August 21, 2026 as the date for the theatrical release.
The new film follows on from "Insidious: The Red Door", which was directed by franchise veteran Patrick Wilson himself. It is not yet known which actors will return for "Insidious 6" or who will direct and write the screenplay. Unfortunately, there are no further details apart from the start date.
New film by Darren Aronofsky
However, it is clear which film will take over the date originally scheduled for "Insidious 6". Sony has announced that the new film by Darren Aronofsky is planned for this. "Caught Stealing" is therefore scheduled to be released in cinemas on August 29, 2025.
Austin Butler will play the lead role of Hank Thompson. He is a former baseball player who becomes embroiled in the machinations of New York's criminal underworld in the 90s.
Darren Aronofsky has already proven his skills on several occasions. Films such as "Black Swan", "Requiem for a Dream" and "The Wrestler" are considered modern classics. Here you can watch the trailer for his latest film "The Whale" again.
The Insidious series
Since its first installment in 2010, the "Insidious" series has become an integral part of modern horror cinema. With a mixture of psychological horror, supernatural elements and eerie moments, the series has gained a loyal fan base worldwide. But what makes the "Insidious" films so special?
Insidious
The first film in the series was directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell - the creative duo behind the successful "Saw" series. The film tells the story of the Lambert family, whose son Dalton is in a coma after a mysterious incident. But the real horror only begins when the parents realize that Dalton is not just in a coma, but is being haunted by dark, supernatural forces. The film was celebrated for its surprising moments of shock and its subtle but effective atmosphere, catapulting the "Insidious" series to worldwide success.
Insidious: Chapter 2
In the second installment, the Lamberts return to unravel the mystery behind the supernatural events. After the first film ended with a dramatic cliffhanger, the second part expands on the story. The family now not only has to deal with the threat of the "Further", a dark parallel world full of sinister beings, but also with the shocking truths about their own family members. The second film continued the successful formula of the first film and intensified the dark atmosphere.
Insidious: Chapter 3
"Insidious Chapter 3" is the first prequel film in the series and takes place before the events of the first part. It was directed by Leigh Whannell, who also wrote the screenplay. The film follows young Quinn Brenner who, after losing her mother, contacts a medium to communicate with her deceased mother. But this brings dangerous supernatural beings onto the scene. The third part focuses more on the exploration of the "Further" and further developed the character of the medium Elise Rainier, played by Lin Shaye, as a central figure. "Chapter 3" brought a breath of fresh air to the series by providing more background information and a new perspective on the supernatural events.
Insidious: The Last Key
The fourth part, "Insidious: The Last Key", is once again a prequel and sheds light on the past of Elise Rainier, the medium who plays an important role in the first three films. The film tells the story of Elise's childhood and her first encounter with the "Further". In "The Last Key", Elise returns to her home, where she is haunted by dark events from her past. The movie delved deeper into the character of Elise Rainier and showed a more personal and emotional aspect of the series, while maintaining the creepy atmosphere.
Insidious: The Red Door
"Insidious: The Red Door" marks a return to the origins of the series and is the fifth installment of the "Insidious" franchise. Directed by Patrick Wilson, who played a central role in the first two films as Josh Lambert, the film follows the now adult Dalton Lambert as he tries to reorganize his life after the traumatic events of his childhood. But the shadows of the past won't let him go: when he goes to university, he is haunted by dark, supernatural forces that are deeply connected to his family and the mysterious "Further". The film not only brings back the classic spooky atmosphere, but also places a strong focus on the psychological aspects of horror, in particular the processing of trauma and the dangerous lure of the "Further".
