Coco 2, The Incredibles 3 & More: First Look & New Details on Pixar's Films

Big news for all Pixar fans! At the Disney D23 event, the first glimpses of upcoming animated films were revealed. These include brand-new images and information about the highly anticipated sequels "Coco 2" and "The Incredibles 3." The new projects "Gatto" and "Ghost Market" were also unveiled. Coco 2
"Coco 2" in particular drew a lot of attention. The sequel naturally continues to center on protagonist Miguel, who is now a teenager. Actor Benjamin Bratt, who attended the D23 panel, shared further details about the plot. Bratt announced his return as the voice of Ernesto de la Cruz, the villain from the first film. He described his character's perspective—and revealed the following about the sequel:
"To some, Miguel is a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy. Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the land of the dead. Proving fate has a sense of humor, Miguel must team up with a handsome superstar: me."
A first concept image shows Miguel together with his dog Dante. Additional photos were also released. "Coco 2" will be directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina. The two were also behind the first film. The release date for the sequel has also been announced—but we'll have to be patient a little longer: "Coco 2" will hit theaters in November 2029.
The Incredibles 3
Many Pixar fans are also eagerly anticipating "The Incredibles 3." An important detail regarding the sequel's timeline: According to producer Brad Bird, there won't be a time jump—so the children of the superhero family will remain their original ages. The three children are likely to play a central role in "The Incredibles 3." According to reports, they sneak out of the house at night without their parents' knowledge to protect their city. Pixar's Peter Docter commented on this during the panel, saying:
"They want to prove they're ready to be real superheroes, but their parents aren't entirely convinced. That's why they sneak out of the house at night to protect the city, and that doesn't go over particularly well at home. As if that weren't bad enough, they're having trouble keeping Jack-Jack under control."
In keeping with the greater focus on the children, they are also prominently featured in the first-look images. At the same time, however, Docter also spoke about a new threat—and what the world of *The Incredibles* looks like after the end of the second film:
"A new threat poses a serious challenge for Bob, who is grappling with the question of what significance he still has in a world full of superheroes that may have outgrown him. Because even though superheroes are legal again, that doesn't mean all superheroes are good."
The new installment in the popular animated film series will not be directed by Brad Bird, who helmed the first two films. Instead, that task now falls to Peter Sohn. Sohn is no stranger to the Pixar universe: he directed "Elemental," for example. Bird, however, remains involved with "The Incredibles" and is responsible for the screenplay. "The Incredibles 3" is scheduled for release on June 15, 2028.
Ghost Market
In addition to the sequels mentioned above, a completely new Pixar project was also unveiled: "Ghost Market." A first clip from the animated film was shown at the event. An official plot synopsis was also released:
The story centers on the 'Ono Market—a small snack bar tucked away in a remote spot on the north shore of O'ahu (Hawaii) that serves lost souls stuck between life and death. No living person has ever set foot in this place—until a smooth-talking boy named Kyle accidentally stumbles in and suddenly finds himself on an unexpected supernatural adventure.
The film is directed by Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews, who wrote the screenplay for the Pixar film "Hoppers." It is set to hit theaters in March 2028. Pixar has already shared a first clip on social media that offers a sneak peek at "Ghost Market":
Gatto
Last but not least, new images have also been released for the animated film "Gatto." Here's what the upcoming Pixar film is about: In "Gatto," the tough black cat Nero (voiced by Mark Ruffalo in the original) begins to wonder if he's lived the right kind of life after roaming for years through the canal-crisscrossed, superstition-ridden city of Venice, Italy.
Nero is in debt to Rocco (voiced by Laurence Fishburne in the original) , the ruthless local boss of the cat mafia. This puts him in a bind and forces him to form a completely unexpected friendship that might finally lead him to his destiny—unless Venice gets to him first. "Gatto" hits theaters on March 4, 2027.
