Third: "Doomsday" has more to lose in this competition than its rival. Robert Downey Jr.'s salary alone is said to be around 100 million US dollars, while the Russo brothers are receiving 80 million dollars for directing. This has led to estimates that "Doomsday" would need to gross more than 1.5 billion dollars to even turn a profit. Marvel simply cannot afford to lose too many viewers to "Dune".

But behind closed doors, another, bigger trailer has already been shown. According to US media reports from CinemaCon in April, it featured Robert Downey Jr.'s first unmasked appearance as Victor von Doom. In it, he warns of an impending doom that cannot be stopped. Apparently, there was also plenty of action: for example, a direct duel between Shang-Chi and Gambit, as well as a fight between Mystique and Yelena. But the absolute highlight was reportedly a battle between Thor and Doctor Doom – in which the God of Thunder clearly loses out. The trailer ends with a surprise: Steve Rogers returns and picks up Thor's hammer, Mjölnir!

The Sentinels Leak: AI Fake or Real?

This non-public trailer takes us straight to the biggest topic of the past few weeks: the so-called Sentinels leak. A heavily pixelated clip is circulating on social media, showing Doctor Doom leading an army of Sentinels into battle against an alliance of Avengers and X-Men. As a reminder: Sentinels are giant, highly advanced robotic drones originally built to hunt down mutants. In the leak, they are now marching under Doom's command. The footage features Thor, Shang-Chi, and Steve Rogers, as well as Nightcrawler, Beast, Gambit, and Cyclops. However, the visual effects in the clip appear far from finished.

Initially, there were massive doubts about the authenticity of the material. The pixelated footage could have been created deliberately to conceal typical AI mistakes. Another strong sign that it's fake: the clip was shared thousands of times online without Disney taking any action against it. If the footage were genuine, that would be highly unusual. But: that has since changed. Numerous clips have since been taken down due to copyright claims. While this still isn't proof that the footage is real, it's at least a very strong indication.

When Can We Expect the Official "Avengers: Doomsday" Trailer?

Of course, we're all eagerly awaiting the proper, official "Doomsday" trailer. But when can we expect it? There is one date that would be a perfect fit: July 25. That's when Marvel's panel will take place at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego. Last year, they weren't present at all, and in 2024, they had the big reveal of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom there. Not only would that date be just under five months before the movie's release, but it would also be right around the time "Brand New Day" hits theaters on July 31. Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, but we're already marking July 25 in bold on our calendars.

The Shocking Rumor About Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man

If this next insider rumor turns out to be true, Spidey fans in particular need to brace themselves: it concerns the opening scene of "Doomsday". According to multiple sources, we'll see Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man right at the start of the film – though entirely in CGI.

The story is said to take place in an alternate reality where Peter Parker fights alongside Doctor Octopus against the X-Men, including Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The shocking twist: Peter dies in this scene, and his entire universe is completely destroyed. It would be an unbelievably dark opening that would immediately raise the stakes for "Doomsday".
