Harry Potter: HBO Series Casts Harry's Parents and Charlie Weasley
Charlie Weasley Did Not Appear in the Films
The premiere of the "Harry Potter" series is getting closer and closer. The core of the cast has been set for a while now—yet not all the names in the ensemble have been revealed. Now, several new cast members for the HBO series have been officially announced: First, there's the casting of Harry's parents. Second, an actor has also been cast as Charlie Weasley.
Harry Gilby as Charlie Weasley
What's unique about the casting of Charlie is that the character didn't play a role in the films and was only briefly seen in a family photo of the Weasleys. Although Charlie also makes only a few appearances in the books, the role has now been cast for the tv show. Charlie will be portrayed by Harry Gilby. Gilby has appeared, among other roles, in the biopic "Tolkien" as the young version of the eponymous author. He was also part of the cast of the historical series "The Last Kingdom."
Charlie Weasley is the second-oldest son of the Weasley family and the older brother of Ron Weasley. After graduating from Hogwarts, he works with dragons in Romania. Consequently, he plays a role in the fourth book, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," among others, since that's where the Triwizard Tournament (including dragons) takes place. In the series, Harry Gilby is expected to appear as Charlie Weasley as early as the first season.
Jasper Talbot & Hannah Chinn as James & Lily Potter
Harry's parents, on the other hand, are portrayed by Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn. Both actors have primarily appeared in supporting roles in film and television to date. As is well known, James and Lily Potter are already deceased by the start of the story. Both were murdered by Lord Voldemort while trying to protect their son from him.
Throughout the series, Lily and James are present through flashbacks and memories, among other things. Harry's parents also played a role in the films and were portrayed by several actors at different stages of their lives. As adults, they were played here by Geraldine Somerville and Adrian Rawlins.
The Cast of the Harry Potter Series
With Gilby, Talbot, and Chinn, three more names are now joining the star-studded cast of the "Harry Potter" series. The lead trio consists of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer takes on the role of Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu portrays Severus Snape, and Nick Frost plays Rubeus Hagrid.
Also appearing are, among others: Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley. The New Weasley Family
Gilby, playing Charlie Weasley, now joins his family members: Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, Gabriel Harland as George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley. However, starting in Season 2, Ginny will be played by Bonnie Hill. Also joining the cast in Season 2 is Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley. That leaves the role of Bill Weasley, Ron's oldest brother, still to be cast.
When will the Harry Potter series premiere?
We won't have to wait much longer for the "Harry Potter" series to premiere. The first season will premiere on HBO and HBO Max this Christmas. The season is titled after the first novel, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
