In addition to the upcoming film "Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day", fans can expect a special highlight next year: the new live-action series "Spider-Noir" with Nicolas Cage. A series of first images and even a teaser have now been released as part of Amazon Upfront 2025 !

Nicolas Cage already lent his voice to the character Spider-Noir in the animated film "Spider-Man: A New Universe" – now he is slipping into the role of the melancholy hero himself in the live-action adaptation. The first teaser already gives a first insight into the atmosphere of the series. In it, Cage can be seen as a thoughtful and detached Peter Parker, who merely replies to the statement "People could use a hero": "I hope they find someone." Visually, "Spider-Noir" remains true to the style of its comic book source material: the teaser shows a consistent black and white visual language reminiscent of classic film noir works. According to Amazon, however, the series will also be available in color.

"Spider-Noir" is based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, which is set in a gloomy New York in the 1930s. Unlike the friendly spider from the neighborhood, the aged Peter Parker earns his living as a private detective. Caught up in his past as a superhero, he is plagued by feelings of guilt and the dark shadows of his past decisions.

In addition to Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popool and "Sinners" actress Li Jun Li are also on board. The series was written by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who previously worked on "The Punisher" and "Hannibal". "Spider-Noir" will initially be broadcast exclusively on the linear MGM+ Channel in 2026 and will also be available on Prime Video one day later.

The many faces of Spider-Man: a look at the different versions of Peter Parker

Spider-Man is one of the most popular and best-known superheroes in the world. Since his first appearance in 1962 in "Amazing Fantasy #15", created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Peter Parker has become deeply engrained in pop culture as the friendly neighborhood spider. But over the decades, the character has evolved in countless variations – both within the comics and in films, series and parallel universes. From classic incarnations to dark noir versions or futuristic reinterpretations: Here we take a look at the most fascinating versions of Spider-Man and Peter Parker respectively.

The classic Peter Parker

The original version of Peter Parker is the shy, highly intelligent teenager from Queens who develops superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. After the tragic death of his uncle Ben, Peter realizes that "with great power comes great responsibility". This original version forms the moral and emotional foundation of all Spider-Man interpretations to this day. In this classic form, Peter Parker has been portrayed by actors such as Tobey Maguire ( "Spider-Man" 1-3, 2002-2007) and Tom Holland (since "Captain America: Civil War", 2016).

Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara)

Miguel O'Hara comes from the year 2099, a dark cyberpunk future scenario. He is a brilliant geneticist who tries to reconstruct his DNA with that of Spider-Man – which goes wrong and gives him spider powers. Unlike Peter Parker, Miguel doesn't have spider senses, but he does have claws, accelerated regeneration and the ability to climb walls through molecular bonding. This futuristic version gives the character a very unique, technological touch.

Spider-Noir

One of the most stylistically striking versions is Spider-Noir, set in the 1930s during the Great Depression. This dark version of Peter Parker acts as a private detective in a black and white New York and draws heavily on classic detective novels and film noir stylistic devices. Scarred by life and haunted by inner demons, Spider-Noir embodies a morally more complex and broken version of the hero. This character became known to a wider audience through "Spider-Man: A New Universe", in which Nicolas Cage lent him his voice.

Ultimate Spider-Man

In the early 2000s, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley created the "Ultimate" universe – a reboot of many Marvel characters for a modern audience. In this version, Peter Parker is a teenager trying to juggle school, love and superhero life – all with a slightly more contemporary tone. This interpretation brought many new fans to the character and served as a template for later movie versions, particularly Tom Holland's more youthful Spider-Man.

Miles Morales

After the death of the Ultimate Peter Parker, Miles Morales took over the spider costume. The Afro-Latin American teenager was also bitten by a genetically modified spider, but has additional powers such as invisibility and bioelectric shocks. Miles is not a substitute, but a character in his own right with his own story, his own battles and a large fan base. His success – especially through the "Spider-Verse" animated films – shows how versatile and inclusive the Spider-Man concept can be.

Spider-Ham (Peter Porker)

There is no shortage of humorous versions in the Spider-Man multiverse. Spider-Ham is a parody version in which a pig named Peter Porker becomes the spider hero. Although this version initially seems like a pure gag, it has achieved cult status over the years - especially through "Spider-Man: A New Universe", where John Mulaney lent his voice to the character.

Zombie Spider-Man

In the dark Marvel Zombies comics, Peter Parker himself is infected and becomes an undead hero struggling with his humanity. This version is a terrifying reversal of the otherwise morally upright hero and shows just how far the Spider-Man concept can be taken – all the way to horror.

Insomniac's Spider-Man

In the acclaimed Spider-Man video games from Insomniac Games, players experience a grown-up, experienced version of Peter Parker. Here he is no longer a schoolboy, but works as a scientist, fights against well-known villains and at the same time tries to save his relationship with Mary Jane. This version has built up its own fan base thanks to its emotional depth and gameplay.
