The White Lotus: Laura Dern joins the cast in Season 4 – but one of the biggest stars is out
Series creator Mike White is developing a new character for the actress
"The White Lotus" will have to do without one of its biggest stars in the fourth season: Helena Bonham Carter. However, a replacement has already been found for the new episodes of the hit HBO series in Laura Dern, as reported by Deadline.
Filming for the series by writer and director Mike White had only recently begun. Specific details about Helena Bonham Carter's role were not disclosed. However, the character was reportedly set to play a central role in the new season. According to Deadline, an HBO spokesperson commented on the actress's departure with the following words:
"With filming just underway on Season 4 of 'The White Lotus', it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set."
Helena Bonham Carter is being replaced by Laura Dern
What happens next? Laura Dern is now on board in place of Helena Bonham Carter. However, Dern will play a new character that Mike White is developing and writing for her. Previously, the HBO spokesperson had already stated that Carter's role would be rewritten and played by someone else. It was also emphasized that they hope to collaborate with Helena Bonham Carter on another project soon. According to Deadline's report, the recasting is an exception within the series. This is because creator Mike White always proceeds with extreme care during the casting process to find the actors who best match his vision for his characters. Given this, Helena Bonham Carter's departure is all the more surprising. Especially since she is said to have been at the top of the producers' wish list.
The White Lotus: The Season 4 cast is impressive
With Helena Bonham Carter, one of the most renowned stars of the fourth season is leaving the show. The actress has already appeared in numerous films, including the "Harry Potter" series, and has portrayed several roles, particularly under the direction of Tim Burton. Among others, she was part of the cast in Burton's "Dark Shadows," "Alice in Wonderland," and "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." But even after her departure, the cast of "The White Lotus" remains impressive. With Laura Dern, the fourth season has gained a celebrated actress. Over the course of her career, she has appeared in a wide variety of films, including "Blue Velvet" and "Jurassic Park." Most recently, she starred alongside George Clooney and Adam Sandler in "Jay Kelly."
Just recently, another big-name star was signed on: "Boogie Nights" actress Heather Graham. Along with Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, Tobias Santelmann, Frida Gustavsson, and Laura Smet, she joined an already impressive ensemble. Among the most recognizable names is certainly Vincent Cassel, known for films like "Ocean's Twelve" and "Black Swan." Other cast members include Steve Coogan, Sandra Bernhard, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Max Greenfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, and Chloe Bennet.
The fourth season of The White Lotus is set in France
Little is known so far about the individual roles or the story. As in the earlier seasons of the anthology series, the focus will likely once again be on new guests and staff members of the eponymous hotel chain. It's also possible that one or two characters from previous seasons might return. Jennifer Coolidge, for example, once reprised her role as the wealthy Tanya McQuoid. In any case, the new characters are heading to France. Paris and the French Riviera are set to serve as the backdrop. The locations change from season to season: previously, the action took place in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand.
Series creator Mike White is once again serving as writer and director. He is also on board as an executive producer alongside David Bernad and Mark Kamine. Production on the fourth season has already begun. However, it remains to be seen when the new episodes of "The White Lotus" will premiere on HBO. It is believed that this is unlikely to happen before 2027.
