Crystal Lake: Filming for the Friday the 13th series has been completed

Jason returns! "Crystal Lake" is a new "Friday the 13th" prequel series that delves deep into the backstory of the infamous serial killer. Showrunner Brad Kane has now announced the completion of filming for the first season.

On Instagram, Kane recently shared photos of a closing ceremony with cast and crew – a clear sign that production of the first season has been successfully completed.

"Crystal Lake" will focus on Jason's childhood and his close relationship with his mother Pamela Vorhees. She is a central character in the first film from 1980, in which it is revealed at the end that she commits the murders at Camp Crystal Lake – out of revenge for the supposed death of her son. The series is therefore dedicated to the time before these tragic events and aims to show how a mother-son relationship became a cruel legend. The role of young Jason will be played by child actor Callum Vinson. It is not yet known which actress will take on the role of Pamela Vorhees.

There is no specific start date yet, but the series is expected to start in 2026.

Interestingly, this symbol came about rather by chance: for "Friday the 13th Part III", the production team was looking for a new, eye-catching look for the killer and a crew member brought an ice hockey mask to the set. It was slightly modified – and the rest is movie history.

The mask gives Jason anonymity, but also personality. Behind it, man and monster become blurred. It stands for the loss of his identity – and for his final transformation into a legend.

The physical presence

Jason is not a cunning murderer lurking in the dark - he is a force of nature. His immense physical strength and endurance make him an almost supernatural being.
