Wicked For Good: Trailer Release Date and Poster Unveiled
Wicked: Part 2 will be released this year
Last year, "Wicked" was one of the biggest movie sensations. Fans are therefore already eagerly awaiting the sequel, which will hit theaters later this year. An official poster has now been made public, which was previously shown at CinemaCon 2025. But most importantly, we now also know when the first trailer will be released.
The poster shows the two main characters Elphaba and Glinda, played by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. They are facing each other, but the yellow brick road familiar from "The Wizard of Oz" can be seen between the two.
"Wicked: For Good" is set to seamlessly continue the story of the first film. It will therefore adapt the second half of the "Wicked" musical. At CinemaCon, director Jon M. Chu already revealed that the focus would now be on the consequences of Elphaba and Glinda's decisions. A first trailer was also shown at the event.

The Fascination of "Wicked" and "The Wizard of Oz"
The world of Oz is one of the most iconic and long-lasting fantasy worlds in pop culture. For over a century, the stories about Dorothy, the Yellow Brick Road, the Emerald City and its quirky inhabitants have enchanted generations of readers and viewers.
The Origins: "The Wizard of Oz"
In 1900, L. Frank Baum published "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", later known as "The Wizard of Oz". The story revolves around the young girl Dorothy, who is swept away from Kansas by a tornado to the Magical Land of Oz. There she meets three unusual companions: the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion. She sets off in search of the mysterious Wizard, who is supposed to help her return home.
The 1939 Movie Classic
A particularly influential contribution to the "Oz" world is the 1939 film adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz" starring Judy Garland. The iconic direction, the music and numerous popular quotes make the movie a milestone in the history of cinema. The movie developed a cult following and is still considered an important film today.
"Wicked" – The Backstory of the Witches of Oz
In 2003, "Wicked", a musical based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, was performed for the first time. The play tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, from her own point of view. "Wicked" blends themes of identity, friendship, discrimination and power into a more complex, new version of the well-known story. The musical became a worldwide success. In 2024, the first part of the highly anticipated film adaptation of "Wicked" starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande was released – and was equally successful at the box office.

Movies and Series from the World of Oz
The World of Oz has been repeatedly reinterpreted and expanded over the years. The 2013 prequel "Oz the Great and Powerful", directed by "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi, is particularly well-known. The cast includes James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff. However, "Return to Oz" from the 80s is also very popular.
2017 saw the release of "Emerald City", a dark, modern TV reinterpretation of the Oz myth. The series, starring "Andor" star Adria Arjona, was canceled after a single season, however. Thanks to the "Wicked" film adaptations, the World of Oz is currently more popular than it's been for a long time. "Oz" fans are now naturally looking forward to "Wicked: Part 2", which will once again expand the franchise.
