Launch date for "Daredevil: Born Again" revealed

Production had to struggle with huge problems

By Jonas Reichel on

Back in 2022, Marvel announced that a reboot of "Daredevil" was in the works in the form of a new series for Disney+. However, production proved to be more difficult than expected, meaning that a release was a long time coming. But now the time has come, as the start date for "Daredevil: Born Again" has been revealed.

It was confirmed at New York Comic Con that we will be able to see the superhero series on March 4, 2025. The first season of "Daredevil: Born Again" will comprise nine episodes – a further season has already been announced.

Originally, "Daredevil: Born Again" was planned as a sequel to the Netflix series "Daredevil", but work had to be suspended due to the writers' and actors' strike in Hollywood. Disney and Marvel used this forced break to review the material that had already been filmed. Unfortunately, the internal reviews were so disappointing that a completely new creative team was hired and production practically started from scratch.

With the new creative team, the series is set to return to the atmosphere of its Netflix predecessor. Dario Scardapane, who is known for "The Punisher", is taking on the role of showrunner. Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who previously worked on the Marvel series "Moon Knight" and "Loki" , are also on board. The story of the new series will be partly based on the "Born Again" comic series by Frank Miller. In addition, "Devil's Reign" by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto will play a central role. This much in advance: both series are extremely dark and bloody. Charlie Cox will of course once again take on the role of the blind lawyer. We can also look forward to Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle aka the Punisher, among others.

All previous MCU series at a glance

In recent years, Marvel has developed into one of the biggest and best-known franchises in the world, particularly through the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which began in 2008 with the film "Iron Man". In addition to the blockbuster films, Marvel has also produced an impressive number of series that further deepen the MCU and introduce new stories and characters.

The Netflix era (2015-2019)

Before Disney+ became the center of MCU series, Netflix dominated the scene with its darker and more grounded Marvel adaptations. These series differed significantly from the MCU films, both in tone and storytelling style.

  1. Daredevil (2015-2018) The first of the Netflix Marvel series, "Daredevil" introduced viewers to the world of blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) , who defends Hell's Kitchen in New York City at night as a masked vigilante. With its gritty, brutal action and intense character development, "Daredevil" set a high standard.

  2. Jessica Jones (2015-2019) This series focused on Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), a traumatized private investigator who must confront her tormentor, Kilgrave (David Tennant). With its psychological depth and depiction of trauma and abuse, "Jessica Jones" was highly regarded.

  3. Luke Cage (2016-2018) Luke Cage (Mike Colter) brought a strong African-American perspective to the MCU and addressed social and political issues surrounding the black community in Harlem.

  4. Iron Fist (2017-2018) "Iron Fist" had a hard time resonating with fans and was often criticized for its plot and action scenes. Nevertheless, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) was an important part of "The Defenders" where the heroes came together.

  5. The Punisher (2017-2019) "The Punisher" followed the vengeful Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), who embarks on a brutal vendetta after the murder of his family. The series dealt with complex issues such as PTSD and violence and was highly praised for its toughness and Bernthal's portrayal.

Marvel's transition to Disney+ (since 2021)

With the launch of Disney+, Marvel moved its series offerings to its in-house platform, allowing for greater integration into the MCU. These series played a central role in introducing new characters and expanding the storylines of the films.

  1. WandaVision (2021) The first MCU series on Disney+ mixed elements of classic sitcoms with supernatural events. Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) created a perfect suburbia to deal with her grief over Vision, which eventually led to a confrontation with the witch Agatha Harkness.

  2. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) This series explored Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) journey to embrace Captain America's legacy, tackling deep themes of racism and the burden of responsibility.

  4. Hawkeye (2021) Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) returns to New York and must confront his past. He teams up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) , and the series also brought back popular character Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).

  5. Ms. Marvel (2022) Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Muslim teenager, discovers her superpowers and becomes Ms. Marvel. This series stood out for its cultural diversity and youthful energy.

  6. Moon Knight (2022) Marc Spector aka Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) struggles with multiple personalities and acts as the avatar of an Egyptian god. The series skillfully balanced psychological thriller elements with the mythology of the Marvel universe.

  7. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), a lawyer and Bruce Banner's cousin, deals with her life as the Hulk in a humorous way. The series mixed comedy, superhero action and courtroom drama in a refreshing new tone for the MCU.

Animated Adventures: What If...? (2021-present)

Each episode is set in a different parallel universe and features alternative fates of characters like Captain Carter or Doctor Strange. This series explores the limitless possibilities of the multiverse and offers fans insights into fascinating "what if" scenarios that would be impossible in the movies.

"I am Groot" (2022-present)

"I am Groot" is a collection of animated shorts focusing on Baby Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy". The charming and humorous episodes feature Groot's cute and sometimes chaotic adventures, without a deeper connection to the overarching MCU storyline.
