Avengers 5: First Look of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom Revealed

Production is already underway

Following the announcement of the impressive list of 27 cast members for "Avengers 5: Doomsday", anticipation is noticeably growing among fans. Every detail about the cast is being followed with great interest – especially when it comes to Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Now a picture has generated buzz, as it apparently reveals the character's look.

Robert Downey Jr. can be seen at his 60th birthday party with curly hair. Particularly interesting: on the invitation to the party, Downey presents himself with exactly this hairstyle as Doctor Doom. Although this could just be a creative gag – after all, wigs and masks will surely also be used in the film – it has led to speculation about his actual appearance in the movie.

Some fans were initially nervous that Marvel might want to turn Doctor Doom into a kind of "Iron Man" variant. The currently circulating images could at least alleviate these concerns a little, as the style is clearly different from the typical Tony Stark look. Although it is assumed that Downey will not permanently hide behind a metal mask and hood in the film, as is often the case in the comics, it seems that they want to explore new avenues with this reinterpretation. However, it remains to be seen whether this will be well received by fans.

It is also important to note that Downey Jr. himself confirmed that he is indeed taking on the role of the classic Victor von Doom and not an alternative version of Tony Stark who has become a villain.

Production on "Avengers 5" has already begun and filming is about to kick off – as Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently confirmed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The eagerly awaited Marvel event is still scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026

Dr. Doom in the Film: All Appearances of the Iconic Marvel Villain

Dr. Doom, aka Victor von Doom, is one of the most famous and complex villains in the Marvel universe. He is not only the arch-nemesis of the Fantastic Four, but also a power-hungry scientist, ruler of the fictional country of Latveria and master of magic. Despite his popularity in the comics, Dr. Doom has so far fallen short of his potential in the movies. Here are all the movies in which the character has appeared so far:

The Fantastic Four (1994 – Unreleased)

This film was never officially released, but was allegedly only used to retain the film rights. Joseph Culp played the role of Dr. Doom. The movie itself was cheaply produced and was long considered something of a legend among comic fans. Doom appears in the classic green cape and mask, but remains rather simplistic and exaggerated in his portrayal.

Fantastic Four (2005)

In the first major Hollywood film about the Fantastic Four, Victor von Doom, played by Julian McMahon, is portrayed as an arrogant entrepreneur and scientist. During a space mission, he, like the Fantastic Four, is hit by cosmic radiation – and transforms into the metal-skinned Doom. His version was a mixture of a Lex Luthor-like businessman and a supernatural antagonist, but was faulted by critics for its superficiality.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

In the sequel, Julian McMahon returns as Doom. Here he attempts to usurp the power of the Silver Surfer. The movie made an effort to make Dr. Doom appear more dangerous, but many fans still found him lackluster compared to his comic book counterpart. The attempt to enhance his role failed due to weak character development.

Fantastic Four (2015)

This remake with Toby Kebbell as Dr. Doom fundamentally changed the character. Victor Domashev – as he was initially called – is a hacker and scientist who develops powers after traveling to an alternate dimension. After his return to Earth, he becomes the menacing Doom. Despite a dark tone and modern look, the film was harshly criticized for its confusing plot and flat characters. Although Doom was visually interesting, his motivation was unclear and difficult to understand.

Conclusion

Dr. Doom had several cinematic appearances, but none of them really lived up to the comic character's potential. However, with his MCU introduction by Robert Downey Jr., there is justified hope that the ruler of Latveria will soon appear on the big screen in new splendor.
