Marvel is planning a Nova movie – the creator of Loki is writing the screenplay
The project was originally conceived as a Disney+ series
After initial rumors surfaced last week about a possible "Nova" project from Marvel Studios, evidence of a film adaptation is now mounting. As Deadline reports, "Loki" creator Michael Waldron is currently working on the screenplay for the new MCU film.
The character Nova made his comic book debut in 1976 and is a member of the intergalactic Nova Corps – a cosmic police force in the Marvel Universe. Thanks to the powers of the Nova Corps, the hero possesses superhuman strength, tremendous speed, the ability to fly, and extraordinary resilience. In the comics, Nova clashes with the Skrulls, among others – an alien species that has already played a central role in "Captain Marvel" and the Disney+ series "Secret Invasion".
Marvel originally planned to release "Nova" as a Disney+ series, with Sabir Pirzada set to serve as writer. However, those plans were shelved in 2025. There has been no official confirmation of the film yet, however: Neither Marvel Studios nor Waldron himself has commented on the reports so far. We'll keep you updated!
Michael Waldron in the MCU: The Architect of the Multiverse
Michael Waldron is one of the most influential writers of the MCU's recent era. After previously making a name for himself with the acclaimed series "Rick and Morty" and the wrestling dramedy "Heels", Marvel Studios brought him on board for projects that would fundamentally change the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The multiverse theme, in particular, bears his signature. To date, Waldron has played a key role in two released MCU projects and is also working on another announced film.
Loki: The Launch of the Multiverse
Waldron's first MCU project was the Disney+ series "Loki" (Season 1), for which he served as head writer and executive producer. The series follows Loki from the timeline of "Avengers: Endgame", who is arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) after escaping with the Tesseract.
As the plot unfolds, the fundamentals of the multiverse are explained. Viewers are introduced to alternate timelines, variants of familiar characters, and the complex system of the TVA. The finale ultimately introduces He Who Remains – a variant of Kang – whose death paves the way for countless new timelines and future conflicts.
With "Loki", Waldron thus created one of the most important building blocks of the current MCU saga. Many subsequent films and series build directly or indirectly on the events of the series.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Following the success of "Loki", Michael Waldron also wrote the screenplay for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (2022). Directed by Sam Raimi, the film evolved into a significantly darker and visually more experimental Marvel adventure.
The story centers on Stephen Strange and America Chavez, who are fleeing from the powerful Wanda Maximoff after she attempts to reach her children from another reality using the Darkhold. Their journey takes them through numerous parallel universes and, for the first time, features various versions of well-known Marvel characters on a large scale. Waldron drew on many ideas from "Loki" and further developed the concept of the multiverse. At the same time, the film combined elements of horror, fantasy, and superhero cinema, showcasing the creative possibilities that alternative realities offer for the MCU.

Work on Avengers: Doomsday
In addition to his previously released projects, Michael Waldron also worked on the screenplay for "Avengers: Doomsday". Together with Stephen McFeely, he is developing the story for the fifth "Avengers" film, which brings together numerous MCU heroes, as well as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, to face off against Doctor Doom
A Key Creative Force Behind the Modern MCU
Michael Waldron has left a lasting mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a relatively short time. With "Loki", he laid the narrative foundation for the multiverse, while "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" explored its possibilities on the big screen. With his work on "Avengers: Doomsday", he is also likely to play a decisive role in shaping the next chapter of the multiverse saga.
