While the eagerly awaited reboot of the action classic "Cliffhanger" is still in post-production, the makers are already planning a sequel, according to Deadline. Whether the creative team and the main actors from the reboot will also be seen in part 2 is not known at the moment – but it is possible.

In the new "Cliffhanger", Pierce Brosnan takes on the role of experienced mountaineer Ray Cooper. Together with his daughter Sydney, he runs a luxurious chalet in the Dolomites. But a supposedly relaxed weekend trip with the son of a billionaire turns into a nightmare when a ruthless gang of kidnappers strikes.

According to information, the plot focuses less on pure action than the original and places more emphasis on psychological tension. Lead actress Lily James emphasized in interviews that the filming process was "exciting and challenging", as the film demanded everything from her physically and emotionally.

The screenplay is based on an idea by Ana Lily Amirpour, known for the artistic horror film "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night". The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who made a name for himself with blockbusters such as "Jungle Cruise" and "Black Adam".

An exact cinema release date has not yet been announced, but industry insiders are expecting a release next year. The sequel is also likely to be a long time coming.

Sylvester Stallone's most iconic action films: a journey through the legacy of a legend

Sylvester Stallone is synonymous with the action cinema of the 1980s and 1990s. Hardly any other actor has shaped the genre like him: with edgy heroic characters, iconic one-liners and unforgettable stunts. Over the decades, Stallone has proven that he is not only a muscle-bound action star, but also a creative mind - he wrote or produced many of his most famous films himself. Here we take a look at some of his most iconic works that made him a legend.

Rocky (1976) : The underdog who changed everything

Before Stallone became famous as an action hero, he revolutionized the sports drama with "Rocky". Stallone wrote the script himself and insisted on playing the lead role – a risky move that paid off. Rocky tells the story of Rocky Balboa, a boxer from Philadelphia who gets the chance of a lifetime to fight the champion Apollo Creed. The film won three Oscars, including "Best Picture", and made Stallone a star overnight.

Although "Rocky" is less an action film than a sports movie, its influence on Stallone's career should not be underestimated: The mixture of heart, fighting spirit and authenticity became the blueprint for many of his later roles. The sequels, especially "Rocky 4" (1985), introduced more action and patriotic pathos – and made a decisive contribution to Stallone's image as an action icon.

First Blood (1982): The birth of John Rambo

With First Blood, Stallone created another immortal character: John Rambo, a traumatized Vietnam veteran who is cast out by society. In contrast to the later sequels, the first film was a gritty thriller with a socially critical undertone. Rambo's fight against a small-town police force was less of a spectacle and more of a character drama – an aspect that makes the film timeless.

But with "Rambo 2" (1985) and "Rambo III" (1988), the franchise took a different direction: explosions, fight scenes and muscle-bound action dominated the screen. These films cemented Stallone's reputation as the action hero of the 80s and turned Rambo into a pop culture phenomenon.

Cobra (1986): 80s action in its purest form

If any Stallone film perfectly captures the aesthetics of the 80s, it's "Cobra". Stallone plays Lieutenant Marion Cobretti, a tough cop who takes on a brutal murder cult. The film is brimming with neon lights, leather jackets and uncompromising violence – a prime example of "style over substance". Although critics were less than enthusiastic at the time, the actioner became an absolute cult film and a favorite for fans of hard-hitting, over-the-top action.

Tango & Cash (1989): Stallone meets Kurt Russell

In "Tango & Cash", Stallone shows his humorous side. Together with Kurt Russell, he plays a cop duo who are sent to prison after an intrigue and have to fight their way to freedom together. The film combines classic buddy cop elements with absurd action sequences and lively dialog. Today, it is regarded as an entertaining relic of an era in which action films were big, loud and deliberately exaggerated.

Cliffhanger (1993) : Action at dizzying heights

"Cliffhanger" literally pushed Stallone to his limits: In spectacular scenes, he climbs through the Alpine landscape without belaying while fighting armed gangsters. The film by Renny Harlin was a box office hit and received several Oscar nominations for its breathtaking stunts. "Cliffhanger" proved that Stallone could also redefine action cinema in the 90s by combining spectacular natural scenery with high tension.

Demolition Man (1993): Vision of the future with cult status

In this sci-fi action film, Stallone plays police officer John Spartan, who is frozen and defrosted in a futuristic, seemingly non-violent society in order to hunt down his nemesis (Wesley Snipes). "Demolition Man" is not only pure action, but also a clever satire on social developments. The mixture of hard-hitting action, humor and futuristic setting made the film a long-running hit.

The Expendables series (2010-2023): A declaration of love to action cinema

With "The Expendables", Stallone brought a whole generation of action stars back to the big screen in the 2010s. As director, screenwriter and leading actor, he united greats such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li and Jason Statham in a series of films that offered nostalgic action fans everything: Explosions, fights and iconic lines. The films are a tribute to Stallone's own career and the golden era of action cinema.

Conclusion: A legacy full of adrenaline and heart

Sylvester Stallone is far more than just a muscleman: he is a storyteller, producer and visionary. His films show how action cinema can not only deliver adrenaline, but also have emotional depth – be it Rocky's fight for recognition or Rambo's confrontation with his traumas. With over five decades in the business, Stallone is a living monument to the action genre. And while new projects such as the Cliffhanger reboot are once again keeping fans on the edge of their seats, one thing remains clear: Sylvester Stallone is and remains the "Italian Stallion" of action cinema.
