Here we go: Filming for "Grown Ups 3" has officially begun! Netflix announced this along with a first photo of the cast. But that's not the only reason fans have to celebrate: In addition to the start of filming, Netflix also revealed the film's full cast. At the same time, they shared a brief premise for the sequel.

The Cast of Grown Ups 3

The third installment brings back many familiar faces, while also welcoming several newcomers. Once again, the focus is on the five childhood friends: Adam Sandler as Lenny, Kevin James as Eric, Chris Rock as Kurt, David Spade as Marcus, and Rob Schneider as Rob. For Schneider, the film marks a return to the franchise after he did not appear in "Grown Ups 2".

Other key cast members are also returning: Maya Rudolph as Deanne, Maria Bello as Sally, Salma Hayek Pinault as Roxanne, and Steve Buscemi as Wiley. Also joining the cast are Jackie Sandler as Jackie, Shaquille O'Neal as Officer Fluzoo, Colin Quinn as Dickie Bailey, Tim Meadows as Malcolm, and Cheri Oteri as Penny.

New to the cast is, among others, "Modern Family" star Julie Bowen, who previously worked with Sandler on "Happy Gilmore." Other new additions include Deon Cole ("Black-ish") and Bailee Madison ("Bridge to Terabithia").

Behind the Scenes

The screenplay was written by Tim Herlihy and Sandler himself. The two previously wrote the script for "Grown Ups 2." There is, however, a major change behind the camera. The film is being directed by Kyle Newacheck, who also directed "Happy Gilmore 2." The first two "Grown Ups" films were directed by Dennis Dugan.

What is Grown Ups 3 about?

The first (and brief) official plot description has now been released:

"Now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure."

In the past, there was speculation that the story might be set in Europe. At this point, however, there is no confirmation of that. What is known, however, is that filming has begun in New Jersey.

It remains unclear when "Grown Ups 3" will premiere on Netflix. However, with production now underway, it's safe to assume we won't have to wait too much longer for the sequel. A release sometime in 2027 seems realistic. We'll definitely keep you updated!

The Grown Ups Movies

With the "Grown Ups" movies, Adam Sandler, together with some of his closest acting colleagues, has created one of the most successful comedy franchises of recent years. The franchise centers on five childhood friends who reunite after many years and realize that growing up doesn't necessarily mean being an adult. Instead of relying on clever gags or high drama, the films focus on lighthearted humor, chaotic situations, and the chemistry of their star-studded ensemble.

Grown Ups (2010)

The first "Grown Ups" was released in 2010 and tells the story of Lenny, Eric, Kurt, Marcus, and Rob, who reunite for the funeral of their former basketball coach. Together with their families, they spend a weekend at a lake, not only reminiscing but also experiencing plenty of chaotic and hilarious moments. Despite mixed reviews, the film became a huge box-office hit.

Grown Ups 2 (2013)

Three years later, the sequel, "Grown Ups 2", followed. This time, Lenny returns to his hometown with his family, where the gang reunites once again. Between class reunions, family chaos, and all sorts of bizarre encounters, the second installment delivers exactly the same mix of silly humor and friendship that fans already loved in the first film. Once again, the movie drew millions of people to theaters worldwide and cemented the franchise success.

The Grown Ups Phenomenon

To this day, the "Grown Ups" films enjoy cult status among many fans. This is primarily due to the palpable friendship between the lead actors, who authentically poke fun at each other in their scenes together and harmonize brilliantly. Added to this is an uncomplicated, feel-good vibe: The films tell stories of friendship, family, and nostalgia without taking themselves too seriously. It's precisely this mix of familiar faces, lighthearted humor, and a laid-back summer atmosphere that ensures the series remains a favorite to watch again and again, even years after its theatrical release.

So many fans were all the more delighted when "Grown Ups 3" was finally announced. We can now look forward with anticipation to what the sequel has in store.
