Neve Campbell as Polaris in X-Men '97
Rumours about an appearance in "Avengers: Doomsday" have been doing the rounds
"Scream" icon Neve Campbell is soon to become part of the Marvel cosmos - but in a different way than initially assumed. As ComicBookMovie reports, Campbell will voice the mutant Polaris in "X-Men '97". Rumors initially made the rounds that she would appear as Polaris, daughter of the mighty mutant Magneto, in "Avengers 5: Doomsday".
"X-Men '97" is a modern sequel to the legendary "X-Men" animated series from the 90s and has quickly gained a firm place in the Marvel animated universe. Polaris' introduction fits in well with the current storyline, which has created an exciting starting point with the dramatic finale of the first season: Forge and Bishop must assemble a new team of X-Men.
The possible connection to Havok, with whom Polaris has a long and volatile relationship in the comics, is also interesting. At the same time, it remains to be seen whether she – like her father Magneto – will take a more radical path. After the Genosha massacre, she may have lost faith in peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans.
With her powerful abilities, Polaris is definitely an asset to the team. Much like Magneto, she can control metal and magnetic fields, levitate, fire energy blasts and create shields – she's a force to be reckoned with both offensively and defensively.
So even though fans won't be hearing her on the big screen, but "only" as a voice, Neve Campbell's entry into the Marvel universe marks an exciting new addition.
Neve Campbell: A journey through her most famous films
Neve Campbell has been one of Hollywood's best-known faces since the 1990s – especially in the thriller and horror genres. The Canadian actress, born on October 3, 1973, has made a name for herself in pop culture with a series of successful films. Her breakthrough came with "Scream", but she has much more to offer than the iconic Final Girl. Here we take a look at Neve Campbell's best-known films and what makes her so special.
"Scream" (1996) – The big breakthrough
Without question, "Scream" is the movie that made Neve Campbell a star overnight. In the role of Sidney Prescott, a high school student who is stalked by a masked killer, she became an icon of the modern horror genre. Director Wes Craven revolutionized the slasher genre with "Scream" by ironically taking up classic horror film clichés and telling a thrilling, nerve-wracking story at the same time. Campbell was the emotional center of the film – vulnerable but strong, and incredibly believable in her role.
Her performance made Sidney Prescott one of the most famous "final girls" in film history. Campbell returned in all five sequels (most recently in "Scream 5" in 2022), which underlines her attachment to the character and the series.
"The Craft" (1996)
Released in the same year as "Scream", "The Craft" is a teen horror film with an occult twist. Campbell played Bonnie, one of four high school students who dedicate themselves to witchcraft. The film quickly became a cult classic of the 90s and is now regarded as a feminist answer to classic horror films. Campbell showed a completely different side here: vulnerable, torn inside, but still determined to stand up to her demons (and her enemies).
"Wild Things" (1998)
With "Wild Things", Neve Campbell proved that she was not restricted to the horror genre. In this erotic thriller, she played Suzie Toller, a rebellious schoolgirl caught up in a web of lies, manipulation and intrigue. The film was particularly talked about for its daring scenes and surprising twists – and Campbell made many headlines with her bold performance. Her role was complex, multi-layered and showed a darker, seductive side that many viewers had never seen before.
"Three Angels for Charlie: Full Throttle" (2003, cameo)
Even if it was only a brief appearance: Neve Campbell had a charming cameo as Luke Wilson's dance partner in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle". It was a humorous, light-hearted moment in her career that showed that she can also shine in lighter genres.
"Skyscraper" (2018)
In the action film "Skyscraper", Campbell played the role of Sarah Sawyer, a former soldier and doctor, alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The film is about a burning skyscraper in which Campbell's character is trapped together with her children. Her role was not limited to that of the "damsel in distress" –on the contrary: Campbell was convincing as a strong, capable woman who fights for survival and takes action herself. "Skyscraper" was a commercial success and brought her closer to a new audience.
Conclusion
Neve Campbell has managed to hold her own for decades in an often changeable film industry. She is not only the face of "Scream", but also a versatile actress who impresses with her courage, authenticity and talent. Whether horror, thriller or action - Campbell brings depth and credibility to every role she takes on. Her filmography is an exciting mix of cult, classic and character roles – and it's quite possible that her best projects are yet to come.
