The Odyssey: The first trailer for the new Christopher Nolan film!
The trailer could be released ahead of the Universal blockbuster "Jurassic World: Rebirth"
With "The Odyssey", Christopher Nolan is planning nothing less than a major cinematic event that will set new standards in adventure and historical cinema. Although the film is not due to be released until July of next year, we can already expect a first trailer!
Rumor has it that it will be dominated by Anne Hathaway's voice acting as narrator. However, anyone hoping for big revelations will probably have to be patient. Nolan is known for his minimalist previews – a stylistic device that was already used in "Oppenheimer". The teaser for "The Odyssey" will most likely be released before the Universal blockbuster "Jurassic World: Rebirth". An online release should follow shortly afterwards. The actual theatrical release of the film is scheduled for July 17, 2026 – a good year later.
An epic journey
Nolan's next film is based on Homer's famous Odyssey. The Greek poet's epic was probably written in the eighth century BC, making it one of the oldest literary works in the world. At the center of "The Odyssey" is King Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, who embarks on a year-long odyssey back to his homeland of Ithaca after the Trojan War. On his journey, he encounters monsters, seductive nymphs and has to fend off the influence of the gods. Meanwhile, his wife Penelope defends her fidelity at home, despite numerous suitors gathering around her. Their son Telemachus, played by Tom Holland, finally sets off in search of his father himself – supported by the goddess Athena, played by Zendaya.
Star ensemble and monumental locations
In addition to the main cast, the film also features other well-known names such as Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, "Punisher" star Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth and many more. Filming will take place around the globe: Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland – and other locations that have not yet been used for filming. Nolan attaches great importance to authentic natural backdrops that make the epic seem tangible and realistic. The "Odyssey" also sets new technical standards – the latest IMAX film technology is used to make the cinematic experience even more impressive. The music for "The Odyssey" will once again be composed by the Swede Ludwig Göransson. Göransson has already composed the score for the last two Nolan films "Tenet" and "Oppenheimer". He even received the Academy Award for Best Film Score for "Oppenheimer".
By the way: at the beginning of the 2000s, Nolan almost directed a movie based on a work by the poet Homer: We're talking about "Troy". Director Wolfgang Petersen once said in an interview with the industry magazine Vanity Fair that Nolan was in talks to direct the historical film. But as we know, nothing came of it: instead, the director began his popular Batman trilogy with "Batman Begins".
Multi-layered content and visually stunning
As is usual with Nolan, "The Odyssey" will presumably also play with complex narrative structures. Instead of a linear chronology, the film could interweave different time levels, build up parallel narrative strands of Odysseus and Telemachus and once again focus on the theme of time – similar to "Inception" , "Dunkirk" or "Tenet".
Given the enormous scope of the original and Nolan's penchant for in-depth dramaturgy, we can expect a long running time - probably three hours or more. Not only can we look forward to an epic story, but also to mythical creatures such as Cyclops, sirens and gods, which Nolan presumably wants to bring to life with practical effects – in his own style.
An expensive but promising venture
With an alleged budget of 250 million dollars, "The Odyssey" is one of Nolan's most expensive productions ever – on a par with "The Dark Knight Rises". Universal has full confidence in the British director, who also wrote the screenplay himself.
Conclusion
"The Odyssey" promises to be a cinematic event of rare grandeur – an adventure deeply rooted in mythology, but made modern, complex and visually stunning by Nolan's signature style. Expectations are high, but if anyone can fulfill them, it is probably Christopher Nolan. A cinematic epic is on the horizon –one that may well write film history.
