The last day of CinemaCon: Paramount presents its upcoming highlights such as "Mission: Impossible 8", "The Running Man" and "The Naked Gun".

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Being the next big Paramount blockbuster, "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" obviously played an important part. Both lead actor Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie paid a visit to CinemaCon to talk about their latest project. But first, Cruise and everyone else on the panel paid their respects with a minute's silence for the actor Val Kilmer, who recently passed away. Cruise and Kilmer were in front of the camera together for both "Top Gun" films.

CinemaCon also honored McQuarrie as Director of the Year before a new trailer was shown on site.. "The Final Reckoning" won't be long in coming: from May 23, 2025, action fans will be able to enjoy the eighth part of the spy series in cinemas.

The Naked Gun

Also this summer, we can look forward to the reboot of "The Naked Gun". Action star Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson are part of the cast. The trailer presented at CinemaCon can already be found on our channel. The theatrical release is scheduled for August 1, 2025.

The Running Man

This year will also be marked by a remake of a Stephen King novel: "The Running Man" is set in a dystopia in which a deadly reality show takes place. The protagonist, played by Glen Powell, takes part in the games in order to use the prize money to save his seriously ill daughter.

The film will be directed by "Shaun of the Dead" director Edgar Wright. Also involved is Thanos actor Josh Brolin, who joined Wright and Powell for a visit to the Paramount panel. There, Wright explained that filming only finished about a week ago. However, that didn't stop Paramount from presenting a first teaser on the spot. Meanwhile, a release date for "The Running Man" has already been fixed: November 7, 2025.

More Movies

There was also additional footage of the new "Smurfs" as well as the new "SpongeBob" movie. Channing Tatum also made an appearance at CinemaCon to present a teaser for his upcoming film "Roofman". In it, he plays a prisoner on the run who goes into hiding in a toy store. The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Peter Dinklage and Ben Mendelsohn. "Roofman" will be released in theaters on October 3, 2025.

A Look Back at "The Running Man"

As some will know, the adaptation of "The Running Man" will not be the first film version of the novel. Back in the 1980s, director Paul Michael Glaser adapted the story with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading role.

The narrative is set in a dystopian future in which society is ruled by an authoritarian regime and the media plays an important role. The central element of the film is a brutal TV show in which criminals are forced to take part in a lethal game. The winner gets his freedom. Schwarzenegger plays Ben Richards, a former police officer who is falsely accused of murdering civilians and put into the deadly game. Richards is not only fighting for his own life, but also against the corrupt system that runs the show.

"The Running Man" combines classic action elements with socio-critical themes such as media manipulation, surveillance and the exploitation of violence for entertainment purposes. The cinematic depiction of a violent TV show that entertains the audience with elaborate competitions and brutal fights still seems particularly relevant in today's world, where reality TV and media sensations are still very much a part of everyday life.

The movie is also characterized by the exaggerated action and humor typical of many 80s blockbusters. "The Running Man" is a captivating and entertaining movie that is still regarded as a cult classic today.
