Scary Movie 6: Two absolute veterans are in it!

Fans can look forward to a formidable cast

The production of "Scary Movie 6" continues to progress. In addition to some new additions, two absolute veterans of the series are now joining the cast.

To be more precise, it's Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott. Oteri played the sensationalist journalist Gail Hailstorm in the first film, while Elliott became a fan favorite as the crazy janitor Hanson in "Scary Movie 2". It remains to be seen whether the two will reprise their previous roles or take on new characters. Elliott already showed in 2006 in "Scary Movie 4" that he can be used flexibly – back then he appeared as villager Ezekiel. Deadline also reported that Damon Wayans Jr, Kim Wayans and Heidi Gardner will also be seen in part 6.

Filming for "Scary Movie 6" is already in full swing. Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Regina Hall in the role of Brenda and Anna Faris as Cindy are among those returning. As with the earlier parts, the Wayans brothers are responsible for the screenplay. Michael Tiddes is the director this time. Part 6 will be released on June 12, 2026.

Film tips for fans of "Scary Movie": When horror and humor collide

Since its launch in 2000, the "Scary Movie" series has conquered its very own place in the hearts of viewers. Hardly any other film series combines such unerring horror parodies with slapstick humor, over-the-top gags and pop-cultural sideswipes. Fortunately, anyone who loves this mix will find a whole host of other films that fall into the same genre – or at least the same mood. Here are some movie tips for anyone looking for the anarchic charm of "Scary Movie".

The Naked Gun series: the masterpiece of absurd humor

Before "Scary Movie" conquered the big screen, the films about Lieutenant Frank Drebin showed how to combine uncompromising slapstick with a completely serious-looking protagonist. "The Naked Gun" series works on a similar principle: the more serious the characters act, the more absurd the chaos around them seems. For fans of the Wayans brothers, this mixture of crime thriller, chaos and shameless slapstick is an absolute must. Not horror, but a clear source of inspiration. A reboot with Liam Neeson was also released in 2025, but was received with mixed reactions.

Shaun of the Dead: British humor meets zombie apocalypse

Edgar Wright's cult film may not primarily be a parody, but it takes a delightfully charming swipe at the zombie genre. "Shaun of the Dead" manages to be funny and surprisingly emotional at the same time. The humor is drier than in "Scary Movie", but the loving examination of horror clichés makes the film a must-see for genre fans. There are also just as many "blink and you miss it" gags here as in the "Scary Movie" series.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil: When everything is a misunderstanding

Few horror films turn the conventions of the slasher genre on their head as cleverly as this one. Two good-hearted hillbillies are mistaken for serial killers, while the college kids practically take themselves out in a series of grotesque accidents. The humor is blacker, but just as unrestrained as in "Scary Movie". Anyone who loves gleeful exaggeration will feel right at home here.

Not another teen movie: from the makers of the parody boom

If "Scary Movie" humor is your thing, then there's no way around this teen movie parody. The movie is basically the sibling of "Scary Movie", only focused on high school movies. So expect a concentrated load of pop culture references, shameless exaggerations and one parody after the next. And yes – Chris Evans plays one of the most legendary parody roles of his career here.

The Cabin in the Woods: the meta version of horror

Less parody, but all the more brilliant in its use of genre clichés. "The Cabin in the Woods" deconstructs the classic teen horror setting with a mixture of satire, sci-fi and horror comedy. The movie is exciting for anyone who wants to look behind the mechanics of the genre. It's not as lighthearted as "Scary Movie," but the way it picks apart horror tropes makes it a perfect fit.

Zombieland: Rule number 32: Enjoy the little things

In addition to the zombie carnage, "Zombieland" convinces with a snotty, self-deprecating narrative style. The characters don't take many things very seriously – and that's what makes it so much fun. The movie is modern, fast-paced and full of situation comedy. A real highlight for fans of over-the-top horror comedies.

Conclusion: Humor has many faces – horror too

Those who love "Scary Movie" are usually not just looking for horror, but for a very specific way of making fun of horror. Fortunately, there is a wide range of films that deliver exactly this mixture – sometimes brute and loud, sometimes more subtle and meta. Whether slapstick, clever genre deconstruction or pure parody madness: for fans of the series, there is more than enough material to turn the next movie night into a chaotic comedy.
