Heat 2: Adolescence Star Stephen Graham in Talks
A star-studded cast awaits us in the sequel to the heist classic!
The sequel to the Heist classic "Heat" continues to take shape. As the portal Nexus Point News reports, "Adolescence" star Stephen Graham has been offered a role in "Heat 2". Reportedly, the role would be a younger version of Neil McCauley, who was portrayed by Robert De Niro in the original film. According to the portal, the role was only offered to a "very select group of actors".
Leonardo DiCaprio in Heat 2
In addition to Graham, several other high-caliber names have been discussed for "Heat 2" in recent weeks and months. One thing is certain: Leonardo DiCarprio will be part of the cast! The superstar recently revealed this in an interview with the industry magazine Deadline. It is not yet entirely clear which role DiCaprio will take on. As Graham is now likely to be considered for McCauley, DiCaprio could conceivably be cast as Chris Shiherlis. He was played in the original by the late Val Kilmer.
"Batman" star Christian Bale is also being linked to "Heat 2". There is speculation that Bale could play Lieutenant Vincent Hanna – the character played by Hollywood legend Al Pacino. However, names such as Bradley Cooper, Austin Butler and Adam Driver have also been mentioned time and again. Driver played the lead role in Mann's last film to date, "Ferrari".
This is what Heat 2 is about
"Heat 2" is based on the novel of the same name, which director Michael Mann wrote together with Meg Gardiner. The story acts as both a prequel and a sequel to the original film. It tells the back story of central characters as well as the events following the famous showdown between cop Vincent Hanna and gangster Neil McCauley. Mann will once again direct the project himself and also write the screenplay.
Stephen Graham
Stephen Graham recently attracted attention with his intense performance in the hit series "Adolescence". He is regarded as a character actor with great range. Graham gained international attention with films such as "Snatch" and Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York". He is also present in series, for example in "Boardwalk Empire" and "Peaky Blinders". He has already appeared in front of the camera for Michael Mann in the gangster film "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp.

Graham's involvement in "Heat 2" has not yet been officially confirmed. However, the numerous Hollywood heavyweights associated with the project are increasing the anticipation. At the same time, expectations are growing for the sequel to a film that is still celebrated as a masterpiece among fans. Mann recently revealed in an interview with The Guardian that filming is scheduled to begin in August 2026. This means that the sequel could be released in 2027 or 2028.
The original film: Heat
Michael Mann's "Heat" from 1995 is still considered one of the most influential and style-defining crime films in cinema history. The thriller tells the story of professional gangster Neil McCauley and the uncompromising LAPD detective Vincent Hanna. Although the two men are on opposing sides, they are surprisingly similar in many ways – including their obsession.
"Heat" shows characters who are characterized by professionalism, discipline and loneliness. McCauley lives by his own strict rules, Hanna increasingly sacrifices his private life for his profession – both pay a high price for their principles. Their inevitable clash in the middle of the film forms the emotional and dramaturgical center.
Why Heat is so popular
One of the greatest strengths of "Heat" is Michael Mann's uncompromisingly realistic staging style. The famous bank robbery sequence with its precise choreography and powerful, realistic sound design set standards for the genre and continues to influence action and heist films to this day. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" in particular was inspired by "Heat".
At the same time, Mann takes plenty of time for quiet moments, dialogues and character development, allowing the film to maintain an enormous amount of tension despite its running time of almost three hours. Added to this is the iconic cast: Robert De Niro and Al Pacino meeting for the first time in a central scene is one of the most legendary moments in film history. They are supported by a top-class ensemble, including Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd and Tom Sizemore.
All these elements make "Heat" much more than a classic crime thriller. The film is an atmospheric portrait of a big city, a study of obsession and professionalism and a stylistic model for generations of filmmakers. This also explains the enormous interest in "Heat 2".
