Call of Duty is being made into a movie!
There is no start date yet
With over 500 million games sold, "Call of Duty" is still one of the most successful video game series of all time. Reason enough for a film adaptation, which according to industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter is currently in the works at Paramount Pictures.
The recently signed contract allows Paramount to develop, produce and distribute films and series based on the popular first-person shooter worldwide. The aim is to inspire the huge fan base and at the same time reach a completely new audience.
Paramount CEO David Ellison emphasized his personal connection to the action series:
"As a lifelong fan of "Call of Duty" this is truly a dream come true. From the first Allied campaigns in the original "Call of Duty", through "Modern Warfare" and "Black Ops", I've spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly."
Activision President Rob Kostich also sees the collaboration as a great opportunity:
"Throughout its history, "Call of Duty" has captured our imagination with incredible action and intense stories that have brought millions of people together from around the world, and that focus on making incredible "Call of Duty" games remains unwavering. With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who we will work with to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment. The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started."
When the "Call of Duty" movie will be released and what story it will tell remains under wraps at this time. However, as we all know, anything is possible, from World War II to science fiction scenarios.

War movies in the style of Call of Duty: 10 films full of tactics, action and adrenaline
Those who love "Call of Duty" often look for the same feeling in films: crackling tension, tactical finesse, breathtaking battles and characters who rise above themselves in extreme situations. Some war films manage to draw the viewer right into the action, much like the classic first-person shooter has done for over 20 years. Here are ten recommendations for films that should delight fans of the series.
Historical authenticity: World War II up close and personal
Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private James Ryan" (1998) is a milestone in the depiction of the Second World War. The landing in Normandy is filmed so realistically that you feel like you're in the middle of Omaha Beach. "Call of Duty" has used this scene in numerous games – which is precisely why the film is a must-see for all fans of the series.
"Fury" (2014) also delivers a haunting portrayal of war. Unlike many films, this movie focuses on a small tank crew. The claustrophobic battles and strong team dynamics are strongly reminiscent of the squad-based multiplayer of "Call of Duty".

Modern theaters of war and tactics
Anyone interested in contemporary theaters of war should watch "Black Hawk Down" (2001). Ridley Scott's film about the battle of Mogadishu shows chaotic house-to-house fighting, tactical decisions and merciless action. Many "Modern Warfare" missions bear the hallmarks of this classic.
"Zero Dark Thirty" (2012) offers fans of stealth missions a cinematic highlight. Kathryn Bigelow tells the story of the hunt for Osama bin Laden with a mix of political thriller and realistic Navy SEAL action – ideal for gamers who love covert operations.

Intense feeling of being in the thick of it: The First World War and more
Sam Mendes' "1917" (2019) is a cinematic experience. The continuous camera work creates a feeling as if you are controlling the mission yourself – similar to a "Call of Duty" level. The story of two soldiers who have to deliver a message behind enemy lines shows the war from a grippingly personal perspective.

Heroism and humanity
Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" (2016) tells the true story of a medic who went into battle without a weapon and saved 75 comrades. This film combines brutal action with an inspiring message and is a must-see for anyone who also appreciates the emotional aspects of "Call of Duty".
Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (2017) also scores with its very own dramaturgy. Little dialog, lots of tension and a gripping musical score create a pull that is reminiscent of the constant feeling of time pressure in the game.

Special missions and sniper duels
For sniper fans, "Enemy at the Gates" (2001) is a must. The duel between two snipers in Stalingrad is so intensely staged that you hold your breath – an experience that reminds many gamers of their favorite missions. "Lone Survivor" (2013) is a movie that realistically depicts a failed Navy SEAL mission in Afghanistan. The focus on teamwork and tactical decisions makes the film particularly authentic.
Cinema experiences like a "Call of Duty" campaign
These films cover a broad spectrum – from heroic missions and covert operations to psychological dramas. They are not just action fireworks, but also show the emotional and moral dimensions of war. For "Call of Duty" fans, they are like a cinematic extension of the game and offer the perfect program for anyone who loves gripping stories and tactical suspense.
