Lanterns: First image of the new DC series
The production of the HBO series has begun...
Following a major update on the upcoming DC productions, fans can now take a first look at one of the announced series. We're talking about the first official image of the HBO series "Lanterns".
With "Lanterns", we can expect a new adaptation of the "Green Lantern" comics. Back in 2011, "Casino Royale" director Martin Campell attempted an adaption. However, the film starring Ryan Reynolds was less popular with fans. Now things are set to improve: With HBO, a prestigious television network is devoting itself to the comic adaptation.
Production begins
Production of the series has now officially begun. Proof of this was provided in the form of a first image. It shows: Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The characters are two intergalactic cops who become embroiled in a mystery while investigating a murder on Earth. In the picture, the two can be seen traveling through the American heartland.
The series is tonally reminiscent of one of the best HBO series, namely "True Detective". Kelly Macdonald, who will be seen as Sheriff Kerry, and "Fear the Walking Dead" actor Garret Dillahunt, among others, will take on important roles. The antagonist Sinestro will be embodied by "Banshee" actor Ulrich Thomsen.
Chris Mundy, who was involved in "Ozark" and "True Detective" as a writer, will act as showrunner. "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof is also involved in the realization of "Lanterns". The DC series is expected to be released in the course of 2026.
The films and series by Damon Lindelof
With Damon Lindelof there is a big name in the series business behind the "Lanterns" series. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of his films and series.
Lost (2004-2010)
Damon Lindelof made his big breakthrough as the creator of the groundbreaking series "Lost". Together with Carlton Cuse, Lindelof was responsible for a series that was unparalleled in the TV landscape for its entire six-season run. "Lost" is about a group of plane crash survivors who become stranded on a mysterious island. The series was a mixture of adventure, mystery, drama and science fiction and was characterized by complex narrative structures, time jumps and profound character development.
"Lost" became a cultural phenomenon and influenced many subsequent series. The series has built up a large fan base and is still worth rediscovering today.
The Leftovers (2014-2017)
Following the success of "Lost", Lindelof created "The Leftovers", a profound and philosophical series that deals with the existential questions of life and human nature. "The Leftovers" is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta and deals with the mysterious sudden departure of 2% of the world's population. The remaining people must deal with the emotional and psychological effects of this catastrophe.
The series stands out for its dark atmosphere, complex symbolism and fascinating character development. Lindelof is not just about solving mysteries, but rather exploring faith, loss and the search for meaning in a world that offers no easy answers. "The Leftovers" is a true insider tip and is considered by some critics to be one of the best series ever.
Prometheus (2012)
Damon Lindelof made a name for himself in the cinema with the screenplay for Ridley Scott's "Prometheus". The film serves as a prequel to "Alien" and explores the origins of life and the dark secrets of the universe. Lindelof worked closely with Ridley Scott to create a movie that was both integrated into the "Alien" mythology and raised new philosophical questions.
"Prometheus" is often associated with its themes of creation, faith and the human drive to find answers to the universe's biggest questions. However, the movie is quite controversial and was far from well received by all fans.
Watchmen (2019)
Lindelof took on another great work when he created the series "Watchmen" for HBO in 2019. The series is based on the legendary comics by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons and went far beyond a simple adaptation. Instead, Lindelof brought a new perspective to the story and explored themes such as racism, power structures and the effects of trauma.
