The Wild Robot 2 confirmed: First details about the sequel revealed
There is also information about the story of The Wild Robot Escapes
It's now official: "The Wild Robot" will be continued. A sequel to the 2024 animated film has been announced under the title "The Wild Robot Escapes," as reported by TheWrap. The new movie will be based on Peter Brown's 2018 novel of the same name.
The book is the second part of a trilogy about the eponymous robot Roz, who is stranded on an uninhabited island at the beginning of the first novel. Gradually, he befriends the animals on the island. When he takes the gosling Brightbill under his wing, a special relationship develops between the robot and the little bird. The plot of the first book already served as the basis for the first film. The now confirmed sequel, "The Wild Robot 2", will follow the second novel in the trilogy and tell the story of Roz and Brightbill's attempt to escape from a farm where Roz is used as a worker.

The Wild Robot 2: New directors, old screenwriter
The new directors have also already been announced. The sequel will be directed by Troy Quane, who previously made a name for himself with the Netflix animated film "Nimona". The co-director of "The Wild Robot 2" is Heidi Jo Gilbert. Chris Sanders was the director and screenwriter of the first part. He will once again write the screenplay for the sequel. Jeff Hermann, the producer of the previous film, is also back on board.
In the first film, Roz was voiced by Lupita Nyong'o. Kit Connor was the voice of Brightbill. Other stars such as Pedro Pascal, Stephanie Hsu, Bill Nighy, and Mark Hamill were also involved as voice actors. It remains to be seen whether all the actors will return for the sequel. The release date for "The Wild Robot 2" has not yet been announced.
Acclaimed animated film with a unique look
The first part became a hit in 2024. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the film grossed $334 million at the global box office. "The Wild Robot" was also nominated for three Oscars and was the favorite to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film – even though it ultimately lost out to the equally ambitious "Flow". Given its success, a sequel is not too surprising. Especially since director Chris Sanders already confirmed in October 2024 that there were plans for a second part.
The film's artistic and innovative execution certainly contributed to its great success with critics and audiences alike. Although "The Wild Robot" is a computer-animated work, the images look as if some elements were hand-painted. This results in a very special, unique aesthetic that Sanders once described as "a Monet painting in a Miyazaki forest." In any case, he considers the great Japanese anime director Hayao Miyazaki to be a source of inspiration. The look of his film was also influenced by the depiction of the forest in the Disney classic "Bambi". When it came to the portrayal of Roz, Sanders drew inspiration from iconic characters such as C-3PO and R2-D2 from "Star Wars" and the eponymous robot from "The Iron Giant."
