Eva Green as the perfect Aunt Ophelia?

Fans are already enthusiastic about the casting of Eva Green. The "Wednesday" showrunner duo Al Gough and Miles Millar also commented on the casting:

"Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen – elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia."

Eva Green's career: Her most famous films and characters

With the casting of Eva Green, Netflix is bringing an popular actress into the "Wednesday" universe. Born in France, she made her film debut in Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers" in 2003. Green then became known worldwide with "Casino Royale" at the latest. Her character is now regarded as one of the most popular "Bond" characters ever and played a key role in shaping the Daniel Craig era of the "Bond" franchise.

In the following years, Green continued to play her way into the limelight with several other roles. Her most known films include "300: Rise of an Empire". As the merciless warrior Artemisia, she stole the show in many scenes. She has already gained gothic experience in the horror series "Penny Dreadful". Her performance as Vanessa Ives earned her worldwide praise and a Golden Globe nomination. "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" marked another collaboration with Tim Burton. Green was also part of the cast of the remake of "Dumbo" – also directed by Burton.

The Wednesday phenomenon: why the series is so successful

The fact that the third season of "Wednesday" is already eagerly awaited is, of course, not just down to Eva Green's casting. The series itself has become a real pop culture phenomenon since its launch in 2022.

Season 1 broke records worldwide and Jenna Ortega's interpretation of Wednesday Addams in particular struck a nerve: a mixture of dark humor, self-determination, outsider identity and coming-of-age elements.

The reasons for its success

The unmistakable Tim Burton look is also part of the repertoire of "Wednesday". The series also has strong and interesting characters to offer. These include not only Wednesday herself, but also many of the students at Nevermore Academy. Emma Myers is also popular as the lovably eccentric Enid Sinclair.

Another factor in its success was the viral effect – for example, Wednesday's iconic dance, which took TikTok by storm and inspired millions of imitations. "Wednesday" also offers a successful mix of mystery, fantasy and teen drama that appeals to several target groups at the same time.

Season 2 also kept interest high – the season was released in two parts on Netflix in summer 2025. Of course, you can still find all episodes of the series there – as well as the third season with Eva Green in the future. In addition to Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers, other cast members will also be returning. The confirmed cast includes Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams). Several other familiar faces from the first two seasons will of course also be seen.
