Superman Spin-off: Mr. Terrific Gets His Own Series
A series about Jimmy Olsen is also in the works
Although the latest "Supergirl" movie fell short of Warner Bros.' expectations and failed to impress either at the box office or with critics, DC continues to focus on expanding its superhero universe. As reported by Collider magazine, a series about Mr. Terrific is currently in development.
Behind the scenes, Allan Heinberg will serve as producer and writer. He made a name for himself as the showrunner for the Netflix series "Sandman" and also wrote the screenplay for the first "Wonder Woman" movie. Edi Gathegi, who made his debut in "Superman," will once again take on the title role. "Mr. Terrific" is currently still in an early stage of development. Accordingly, there is no official release date yet.
The Story of Mr. Terrific
The character of Mr. Terrific has a long history in comics. The original hero, Terry Sloane, was created in 1942 by Charles Reizenstein and Hal Sharp and first appeared in "Sensation Comics #1." As a masked crime fighter, he used his extraordinary abilities and strong sense of justice to combat evil. He later became a member of the Justice Society of America before ultimately being killed by his archenemy, the Ghost King.
The current version of the hero, Michael Holt, was introduced in 1997 by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake. Holt is a brilliant scientist who, following the tragic death of his wife and unborn child, was on the verge of taking his own life. It was only his encounter with the spectral Spectre and the story of the original Mr. Terrific that gave him a new lease on life. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, high-tech weapons, and his famous T-Spheres, Michael Holt became one of the most intelligent heroes in the DC Universe.
In the movie *Superman*, Mr. Terrific was part of the so-called Justice Gang and fought alongside Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. His role in the conflict with Lex Luthor is particularly noteworthy: He was one of the few who believed Lois Lane's warnings and ultimately helped free Superman from Luthor's interdimensional prison. It's already been confirmed that Edi Gathegi will reprise his role as Mr. Terrific in the upcoming "Superman" sequel, "Man of Tomorrow."

More DC Series in the Works
However, Mr. Terrific isn't the only character from the "Superman" universe getting a series adaptation. Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, will also get his own comedy series, "DC Crime." In it, the intrepid Daily Planet reporter is set to take on some of the DC Universe's most dangerous villains. According to reports, even the legendary Gorilla Grodd could make an appearance in the first season.
All DCU Series to Date: An Overview of the New Chapter at DC Studios
With the new DC Universe (DCU) led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, a completely restructured superhero universe is emerging that closely intertwines movies and series. While film projects often take center stage, the announced series form the backbone for many characters and stories. They are intended to expand and deepen the new DCU and offer new perspectives on familiar heroes and organizations.
Creature Commandos: The Launch of the New Universe
The first officially launched series of the new DCU is "Creature Commandos." This animated production serves as an introduction to the new continuity and features an unusual team of monsters and misfits deployed on secret government missions.
The series centers on a mix of horror, action, and dark humor. It not only introduces new characters but also sets the tone for the DCU: more mature, genre-blending, and significantly more experimental than previous adaptations.
Lanterns: A Cosmic Mystery
"Lanterns" brings the Green Lantern Corps back to DC's live-action universe. The story centers on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who team up to investigate a mysterious murder case on Earth. The series is described as a blend of science fiction and crime drama and is set to combine both earthly and cosmic elements. As such, it plays a key role in shaping the new DCU by bringing the galactic side of the universe more into the foreground.

Peacemaker: A Bridge Between the Old and New DCU
"Peacemaker" plays a special role in the DCU. The first season was produced as part of the old DCEU but was incorporated into the new universe due to its success. The second season, on the other hand, is officially part of the DCU. The series combines brutal action with satirical humor and portrays Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, as a contradictory antihero who oscillates between violence, morality, and personal growth.
You can watch all the series on HBO Max.
