Lobo is regarded as one of the toughest comic characters

From the DCEU to the DCU: Ex-"Aquaman" actor Jason Momoa joins the cast of "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow". He is taking on a role that many comic fans have been eagerly anticipating for years. The character is none other than the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo!

He was created in the 80s and was originally a villain. In the 90s, he was given a new interpretation as a parody of Marvel's Wolverine. Lobo is a bounty hunter with supernatural powers who often travels on a motorcycle and is joined by the alien bulldog Dawg. Jason Momoa revealed his interest in the role in an interview back in 2023. Via Instagram, he once again described it as the perfect role for him and simply added to the post: "They called."

Interestingly, Lobo does not appear in the original comic story of "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow". However, according to an article by ComicBook.com, he was part of screenwriter Tom King's original pitch. He wanted to make the story similar to the western "True Grit", with Lobo in the role of the washed-up Rooster Cogburn and Supergirl as the young client. However, it is not known whether the movie will pick up on the original drafts.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is based on the comic book of the same name. Kara undertakes a journey through the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday together with Krypto, the Superdog. In the process, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and becomes involved in a dangerous revenge-filled mission. The leading role is played by "House of the Dragon" star Milly Alcock. We will also get to see Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem and Eve Ridley in the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the "Supergirl" film will be released on June 26, 2026.

The Career of Jason Momoa: From Surfing Enthusiast to Hollywood Star

Jason Momoa is one of the most distinctive and versatile personalities in the modern entertainment industry. With his imposing stature, deep, raspy voice and charismatic on-screen presence, he has established himself in a variety of roles, from action heroes to complex, emotional characters. His career, spanning over two decades, has been a fascinating journey from television beginnings to Hollywood blockbusters.

Early Years and Entry Into Acting

Jason Momoa was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in Norwalk, Iowa. From a young age, Momoa showed a keen interest in various sports, especially surfing, which he combined with his love of the outdoors. This connection to the physical world and the challenges of life would later be reflected in his acting career.

He began his acting career in the late 1990s, initially appearing in smaller TV roles. His breakthrough came in 1999 when he took on the role of Jason Ioane in the popular TV series "Baywatch Hawaii". This role helped to raise his profile, although he was remembered more as a "muscle-bound pretty boy". Nevertheless, his success in the series opened doors to further appearances and he quickly built a solid career in television.

The Breakthrough as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones

The real breakthrough for Momoa, however, came in 2011 when he took on the role of Khal Drogo in the acclaimed HBO series "Game of Thrones". The character of Drogo, a cruel but honorable Dothraki warlord, became one of the most recognizable and revered characters in the series. Despite his early departure from the show – his character died after just one season – Momoa left a lasting impression, and his performance as Khal Drogo made a lasting mark on his career. The role helped him gain recognition in Hollywood and beyond, establishing him as a character actor with tremendous range.

Momoa as Aquaman: Superhero and Blockbuster Star

The next big step in Jason Momoa's career was his role as Aquaman, the iconic superhero from the DC universe. Although he first appeared in a brief scene in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), it was the lead role in "Justice League" (2017) that finally established Momoa as a superhero star in the world of blockbuster films. But it was the solo film "Aquaman" (2018) that really made Momoa an international superstar.

"Aquaman" was a financial success and broke several records. The movie not only showcased Momoa's impressive performance as the King of Atlantis, but also his ability to imbue the character with a mixture of charm, wit and muscular strength. Momoa's Aquaman is a multi-layered character that refreshes the superhero movie genre and makes the audience both laugh and marvel. The sequel "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" followed in 2023.

Versatile Roles and Projects

Although Momoa became known as an action hero, his career is far more varied. In 2014, he took on the lead role in the remake of "Conan the Barbarian", another action role that helped him cement his image. But Momoa is not just a star in action and superhero films. He has also appeared in more dramatic and socially critical movies and series. For example, in the TV series "See" (2019-2022), he played the lead role of Baba Voss, a man in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has lost its sight. The series has been praised for its innovative storyline and Momoa's profound performance.

Jason Momoa is also involved as a producer and director. In 2021, he directed "Sweet Girl", a thriller in which he played a central role alongside Isabela Merced. The film, which was released on Netflix, showed Momoa in a slightly different role than usual and brought out a new dimension of his creative abilities. In the film adaptation of "Dune" directed by Denis Villeneuve, he was seen as Duncan Idaho.

Momoa has also distinguished himself as an entrepreneur and activist. He is strongly committed to environmental protection and the conservation of water resources. In 2012, he founded the company Mananalu Water, which is dedicated to reducing plastic waste and making clean drinking water accessible.
