World War II, Spring 1945: During the battle for the Japanese island of Okinawa, one man stands out from the crowd of U.S. soldiers. Conscientious objector Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) risks everything and fights unarmed, to the point of utter exhaustion, to save the lives of his wounded comrades. What would later be recognized as a heroic act initially earned Desmond Doss deep mistrust and contempt from his own ranks. Nevertheless, he fearlessly stood by his principles and saved the lives of countless men in the decisive battle.
