Overview
Venice around 1800: Teresa, known to everyone as "the mute", lives in the College of Sant Ignazio, an old music school for destitute girls. Nobody suspects anything about the extraordinary talent of this simple maid, which enables her to experience reality as rhythm, to perceive its beauty and to change it through music. While everything in the college revolves around the imminent visit of the newly enthroned Pope and the old bandmaster struggles to come up with a glorious composition for the pontiff, Teresa makes a discovery in the storeroom: a brand new, but also uncanny invention, a beautiful instrument - a pianoforte. An extraordinary quartet of young women gathers around Teresa and the revolutionary "music machine", initially as rivals, but increasingly as accomplices. These musicians are a source of great, but deliberately overlooked talent. Against the will of the bandmaster, they develop their own vision of music, inspired by their world, their feelings, the rhythm of their being. The result is a revolutionary, feminine sound that the world certainly did not expect...
