Netflix: Streaming Service Announces 16 New Movies for 2023
Including "Extraction 2", "Rebel Moon" and "Murder Mystery 2"
Netflix is not inactive this year either when it comes to exclusive movies for the streaming service's subscribers. There will be a total of 16 films, which almost always include top-class actors. It will soon kick off with "Your Place or Mine" on February 10, where things are supposed to get romantic. The film stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, who play best friends Debbie and Peter. They live on both coasts of the USA and swap homes for a week.
Netflix's streaming year 2023 continues with "Murder Mystery 2" starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, which should particularly appeal to crime fans. The previous film was released in 2019 and scored over 80 million views in its first few weeks. We can't wait to find out how the sequel is received.
This summer will see the release of "Extraction 2", which follows on from its predecessor released in 2020 and promises plenty of action once again. On June 16, fans of the first part will be able to see Chris Hemsworth in the leading role again.
A highlight towards the end of the year is Zack Synder's "Rebel Moon". The content is about a human colony at the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the army of a tyrannical ruler. Sofia Boutella takes on the lead role of the warrior Kora, having last appeared in Guillermo del Toro's "Cabinet of Curiosities".
Among the films announced for 2023, there are still two entries without a concrete release date. Among them is a still untitled film by Wes Anderson, based on the short story collection "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More" by Roald Dahl, so the title of the film adaptation is expected to be similar.
Another movie without a release date is the biographical drama "Maestro", with Bradley Cooper simultaneously directing and starring as Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein, who died in 1990, is widely regarded as one of the most talented and successful pianists in U.S. history. He composed the music for the musical "West Side Story", for example.
All in all, Netflix has some very promising films among the 16 announcements and we are curious to see how these films with a top-class cast will perform. Here is the full overview of the new films:
