Filming for Evil Dead Wrath has wrapped!
A specific start date has not yet been set
The "Evil Dead" franchise is currently in full swing. While fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of the next installment, "Evil Dead Burn", the producers behind the scenes have already wrapped up the next installment of the horror series. Bloody Disgusting officially confirmed the completion of filming for "Evil Dead Wrath" with a short teaser video.
Production once again took place in the New Zealand metropolis of Auckland, where "Evil Dead Rise" was also filmed. Francis Galluppi, who previously garnered attention with his thriller "The Last Stop in Yuma County", is directing. Horror icon and franchise creator Sam Raimi is once again overseeing the project as a producer.
Exact details about the plot are currently being kept under wraps. However, it is highly likely that the film will once again tell a standalone story featuring new characters who are unwittingly confronted with the horrors of the legendary Necronomicon. The cast, on the other hand, is largely set: Among others, Charlotte Hope, known from the horror film "The Nun", will take on a leading role. Also joining the cast are "Mortal Kombat" actress Jessica McNamee, as well as Zach Gildford and Josh Helman. "Evil Dead Wrath" will be released in theaters on April 7, 2028.
A look back at the previous films in the "Evil Dead" series
The Beginnings of Horror: The Evil Dead (1981)
The foundation of the series was laid in 1981 with "The Evil Dead". The film tells the story of a group of young friends who stumble upon the mysterious Necronomicon in a remote cabin in the woods, thereby unleashing demonic forces. With its low budget, creative direction, and horror elements that were exceptionally intense for the time, the film quickly became an insider favorite among genre fans and is now considered a true classic of independent horror.
Horror Meets Humor: Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Six years later, "Evil Dead II" was released, which partly retells and simultaneously continues the story of its predecessor. Director Sam Raimi relied more heavily on dark humor and over-the-top slapstick, without neglecting the horror elements. The character Ash Williams, in particular, evolved here into the cult figure that fans still know and love today. Many fans of the series consider this film the best installment in the entire franchise.
An Unusual Change of Direction: Army of Darkness (1992)
With "Army of Darkness", the series took a significant stylistic turn. Through time travel, Ash ends up in the Middle Ages, where he must fight an army of the undead. The film focuses more on fantasy, adventure, and comedy than on classic horror. Despite this new direction, the film was enthusiastically received by many fans and is now considered an integral part of pop culture.
The Dark Reboot: Evil Dead (2013)
After more than twenty years, the series returned with a reboot. "Evil Dead" largely dispensed with humor and instead focused on intense suspense, graphic depictions of violence, and a dark atmosphere. The story centered on Mia Allen and her friends picked up on the familiar themes of the original films but presented them in a more modern and significantly darker form. The reboot was received overwhelmingly positively by critics and fans alike.
The Return of Terror: Evil Dead Rise (2023)
With "Evil Dead Rise", the series received another sequel that, for the first time, largely moved the action away from the familiar cabin-in-the-woods setting. Instead, the plot takes place in a dilapidated apartment building in a major city. The film combines classic elements of the series with new ideas and once again centers on the Necronomicon and the dangerous Deadites. Thanks to its blend of modern horror and numerous references to its predecessors, this film also managed to delight many fans.

A Series with a Lasting Legacy
From its independent beginnings in the early 1980s to its modern reinterpretations, the "Evil Dead" series has continually reinvented itself. Each film brought its own ideas and focus without forgetting the franchise's roots. It is precisely this ability to evolve that has played a decisive role in making "Evil Dead" one of the best-known and most beloved horror series in film history to this day.
