Good news for all "Wednesday" fans: according to Variety, the third season of the hit series and even a spin-off are in the works. A brand new poster has also been released to go with it.

As early as 2023, it became known that plans for a spin-off about Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen, were being discussed in the background. Now this project actually seems to be taking shape.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, head writer Alfred Gough and his colleague Miles Millar have big plans for the future of "Wednesday". They hope to continue the story not only in the upcoming second season and the already envisaged third season, but far beyond that. After all, the main character spends a total of seven years at Nevermore Academy – enough material to theoretically produce one season per school year and expand the series to up to seven seasons. Whether this will actually happen, however, depends on lead actress Jenna Ortega. After all, the actress is already 22 years old and won't be able to play a teenage girl credibly forever.

"Wednesday" is now the most successful English-language Netflix production of all time and has become a global cult phenomenon since its debut in 2022. The first season was not only celebrated by fans, but also praised by critics. It won four Emmys and its dark gothic charm, paired with black humor and teen drama, ensured record numbers on Netflix.

The new season will be released in two parts: part 1 starts on August 6, part 2 follows on September 3. This time, Wednesday returns to Nevermore and faces a new threat. Her goal: to prevent the mysterious death of her roommate Enid. But the way there is full of puzzles, dangers and supernatural twists and turns.

Netflix is keeping a low profile so far, and further details about the plot remain a well-kept secret. What is clear, however, is that the series will retain its mix of mystery, humor and dark aesthetics.
