The next "Jumanji" film awaits us: Sony Pictures and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently announced that production on the blockbuster has begun. Now the first image has been shared on social media!

It shows the four main actors Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Dwayne Johnson. Other actors from the sequel are also already known. These include Madison Iseman, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner and Danny DeVito. All of them have also appeared in previous "Jumanji" films. However, Burn Gorman ("The Expanse") and Brittany O'Grady ("The White Lotus") are new to the cast. Jake Kasdan, who directed the two previous films, will return to direct.

Jumanji 3 will be the grand finale of the series

Dwayne Johnson recently showed his excitement about the first meeting with the cast and the production start via Instagram. However, he also revealed that "Jumanji 3" will be the finale of the saga. Until we get to see the third film in the reboot series, a little patience is still required. "Jumanji 3" will be released in cinemas on December 11, 2026.

The fascination of the "Jumanji" films

The "Jumanji" films are among the most successful adventure films of recent decades. When the film starring Robin Williams was released in 1995, it struck a chord with the times – and simultaneously created a timeless fantasy adventure that still has an impact today. Two decades later, the series starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black has successfully reinvented itself and inspired a whole new audience. But what actually makes "Jumanji" so special?

The core concept: a game that becomes reality

The greatest strength of "Jumanji" lies in its universal basic idea: a game that is not just played, but becomes reality. This concept appeals to a basic need of many people – the desire to be drawn into an adventure that is both dangerous and exciting. The original movie utilized this principle by bringing chaos into the real world. The reboot films reverse the approach: the characters are drawn into the game world.

Robin Williams and the heart of the 90s movie

The 1995 film would hardly be conceivable without Robin Williams. His portrayal of Alan Parrish gave the film an emotional core. Williams combined humor, tragedy and childlike enthusiasm with his acting like no other. The movie also captured the spirit of the 90s: practical effects, family-friendly suspense, a touch of nostalgia and a big heart. Many who were children at the time associate "Jumanji" with real adventure cinema – and this emotional connection still has an effect today.

The reboot films

When "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" was released in 2017, many were skeptical. But the film turned out to be a commercial success. Instead of a board game, the focus is now on a video game. At the same time, the avatar idea – young people in the bodies of completely different characters – creates a humorous meta-level that works above all thanks to the actors.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black not only play adventurers, but to a certain extent caricatures of the teenagers they control. The result is a mixture of action, comedy and identity chaos. The series continued in 2019 with "Jumanji: The Next Level". The main cast was also on board again.

Humor, heart and adventure

The "Jumanji" films have a special mix that is also typical of family films. This includes above all the humor, which appeals to both children and adults, as well as genuine adventure suspense without becoming too dark. The tone is light and exciting, but not disturbing.

Whether in the 90s or today, "Jumanji" caters to the human need for escapism. The films offer an escape from everyday life into a world full of danger, surprises and humor – an adventure where you know that everything will turn out well in the end.
