The theatrical release of "Avengers: Doomsday" is drawing ever closer, and with it comes the question of what fans can expect from this MCU blockbuster. As insider Daniel Richtman reports, an initial test screening reportedly took place recently – and it apparently generated a lot of excitement among the audience. The reported runtime is also interesting: the current cut is said to be around 2 hours and 50 minutes. While that would make "Doomsday" a real heavyweight, it would still fall just short of "Avengers: Endgame", which clocked in at just over three hours.

Doctor Doom is expected to be one of the major highlights

Many fans are likely particularly excited to see Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. The decision to bring back the longtime Iron Man actor – of all people – as a villain to the MCU sparked plenty of discussion following the announcement. According to alleged test reactions, however, Doom is said to be one of the most compelling villains the MCU has produced to date. He's even said to be on par with Josh Brolin's Thanos, who was built up over the years as the major threat of the Infinity Saga.

James Marsden as Cyclops is also singled out for praise, according to Richtman. This is sure to be welcome news for fans of the earlier "X-Men" films. In addition, "Avengers: Doomsday" is said to feature a Marvel-style post-credits scene. Details, however, remain under wraps. It would make sense, though, for the post-credits scene to serve as a bridge to "Avengers: Secret Wars". After all, the Russo brothers have already announced that the two films are closely connected. Accordingly, "Doomsday" is likely not only to tell its own story but also to set the stage for the grand finale of the Multiverse saga. It's important to note, however, that the information available so far consists of rumors. Marvel Studios has not yet made an official statement.

Exciting New Addition

In "Avengers: Doomsday", the multiverse – or rather, the clash of different universes – is set to be a central element. Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed "Avengers: Endgame", among other films, are returning to direct. The screenplay is by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The cast of the Marvel blockbuster features numerous stars. The ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr.

In addition, a new addition to the cast has now been reported: Sandra Hüller is also said to be on board for "Avengers: Doomsday", according to the industry publication The Hollywood Reporter. Her role has been kept under wraps so far. Rumors suggest, however, that she could play the mother of the villain Doctor Doom. There is also speculation as to whether she might be one of the Latverian Witches.

In any case, Hüller's international career is flourishing. The German actress enjoyed great success in the science-fiction blockbuster "Project Hail Mary" alongside Ryan Gosling. She is currently appearing in theaters in "Digger" alongside Tom Cruise. Unlike "Project Hail Mary", however, "Digger" has proven to be a box office flop. Nevertheless, the film remains a prestigious project. We'll soon find out how successful "Avengers: Doomsday" is: The film hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
