So what's next for us? Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have been the epitome of spectacular action movies for several years now, and they plan to make more movies together in the future. Now McQuarrie revealed the first details about the new project after Mission Impossible 8.

Great and dramatic blockbuster cinema - that's what Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have been known for together for more than 10 years. The two got to know each other during the first "Jack Reacher" film. Since then, they have thrilled fans with the installments of the "Mission Impossible" franchise - currently with "Mission Impossible 7" - and have regularly set new standards in action cinema. It should therefore come as little surprise that the two want to make movies together outside of "Mission Impossible" as well.

In an interview with Empire, McQuarrie now revealed initial details about the new project, "The Gnarly Movie", which he claimed would go in a heavier direction. "It's that movie they're all asking for, and that we want to do" - said McQuarrie. The two are probably working on an idea that they were unable to realize in the "Mission Impossible" film series, which should finally present us with some rough footage in the style of "Collateral" again.

However, a specific realization of the project is still written in the stars. At the moment, "Mission Impossible 8" has to be finalized first. Although the final part is already in production, it had to be put on hold for an unknown period of time due to the current strikes. Not only could this threaten the planned theatrical release in 2024, but it could also further delay "The Gnarly Movie".
