X-Men Reboot: Rumors about the cast of Cyclops & Co.

Other Marvel characters, such as Rogue and Mystique, are also fueling speculation

Hardly any other Marvel movie is currently generating as much speculation as the upcoming "X-Men" reboot. This is due in no small part to the cast: Fans have been wondering for quite some time which characters from the superhero team will appear – and which actors will portray them. Consequently, the rumor mill is in full swing, especially since insiders like MyTimeToShineHello and Apocalyptic Horseman have already mentioned a few names that keep cropping up. One of the characters currently making headlines is Cyclops: Cooper Hoffman is rumored to be in the running for the role of the mutant.

The son of the famous actor Philip Seymour Hoffman is known, among other things, for his role in the survival thriller "The Long Walk". A role in the "X-Men" movie would certainly be a major career boost – especially since Cyclops is one of the most important characters in the entire "X-Men" franchise. He's been part of the titular superhero team from the very beginning. In other words, in the original Marvel comics, Cyclops – aka Scott Summers – made his very first appearance back in September 1963. Since then, it's been hard to imagine the "X-Men" stories without him. Not only because he repeatedly appears as the leader of the mutants, but also because he has played a central role in numerous storylines.

Cooper Hoffman addresses Cyclops rumor

On the big screen, Cyclops has already been portrayed by James Marsden and Tye Sheridan in previous films. And soon by Cooper Hoffman? The rumor that he's a potential candidate continues to circulate. Hoffman himself commented on it a few days ago. When asked if he was being considered for the role of Cyclops, he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight:

"Not going to be me, but I love the X-Men."

Of course, it's possible that talks with Marvel have already taken place, but he's not allowed to reveal anything yet. At this point, however, that, too, remains mere speculation. In any case, based on Hoffman's statement, fans shouldn't get their hopes up too high that he'll take on the role. Especially since he emphasizes that he can't even explain the rumors in question.

Speculation about Cailee Spaeny as Rogue

Another "X-Men" character who's been mentioned repeatedly lately is Rogue. The mutant made her comic book debut in 1981 and is very popular. Rogue has also appeared in previous "X-Men" film adaptations. She was played by Anna Paquin in those films. And now there's speculation about a new incarnation of the character – including a new actress. Cailee Spaeny, who appeared in the sci-fi horror film "Alien: Romulus," among other projects, is reportedly set to take on the role of Rogue. But here, too, it's important to emphasize: So far, this is just a rumor and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.

Inde Navarrette met with X-Men director Jake Schreier

Another actress currently being linked to the "X-Men" reboot is Inde Navarrette. The actress is currently making waves with her role in the horror hit "Obsession." As she recently revealed to Variety, she recently met with director Jake Schreier, who is set to direct the upcoming "X-Men" film. She didn't reveal much else, but when asked which "X-Men" character she could theoretically portray, she replied:

"I mean, Mystique has always been super cool."

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean she's actually being considered for the role. Nevertheless, such a statement fuels the rumors surrounding Navarrette's possible casting. On the big screen, Mystique – who has existed in the comics since 1978 – has already been played by Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence. It will be interesting to see who portrays the shape-shifting mutant this time, should she appear in the new film.

Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

Unlike the characters mentioned above, the casting of Emma Frost has been considered all but certain for the past few days. "Ready or Not" actress Samara Weaving is set to play the role of the mutant, as reported by Deadline. Marvel has not commented on the matter. However, according to Deadline, director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seem to have made their decision.

Emma Frost also made her comic book debut decades ago: she first appeared in 1980. The mutant possesses telepathic powers and can transform her body into an organic diamond form. Initially an antagonist of the X-Men, she later joined the superhero team. In the movie "X-Men: First Class", the role of Emma Frost was played by "Mad Men" actress January Jones.

In the near future, more names will surely be circulating in connection with the "X-Men" movie. In any case, it remains exciting!
