Everything you need to know about the adaptation of the extremely bloody comic series with Keanu Reeves
A warrior: created to win every battle – but also doomed to suffer forever. This premise is the central point of "BRZRKR" – a comic series by Hollywood star Keanu Reeves. Streaming giant Netflix is now planning an adaptation of the material in the form of a film and a series. It's about time to take a closer look at the projects!
The story
The story revolves around the immortal warrior "B": a demigod who has been living on Earth for 80,000 years. Born to a human father and a divine mother, he was brought into the world to be invincible – a tool of war. His life is marked by endless violence, as he has fought and killed in countless conflicts. But this immortality is not only a gift, but also a curse that consumes Bs' body and soul.
He is currently working for the US government, which uses his abilities to carry out dangerous missions. In return, the government promises to find out the truth about his origins and possibly a way to make him mortal.
Keanu Reeves' influence
"BRZRKR" is strongly influenced by Keanu Reeves' own fascination with topics such as immortality, loss and identity. The actor has emphasized how much he is drawn to the idea of a warrior seeking redemption. His fans can certainly draw parallels between 'B' and his film roles – such as John Wick, who is also driven by loss and revenge.
Alongside Reeves, Matt Kindt also makes a significant contribution to the success of "BRZRKR". Kindt has already been responsible for a whole series of comics, including "Wolverine and the X-Men" and "The Suicide Squad Vol. 4". The illustrations for "BRZRKR", on the other hand, are by Ron Garney, known, among other things, for Marvel's "Civil War" and "Spider-Man: Back in Black".
Multiple adaptations
It was announced back in March 2021 that Netflix had commissioned two adaptations of the story. But not much has happened since then. However, it is already known who will be responsible for directing the "BRZRKR" film: Mattson Tomlin is considered a directing rookie and has so far only worked on "Mother/Android" with Chloë Grace Moretz. On the other hand, he has already gained some experience as a writer: for example, he wrote the script for "Project Power" and is also working on "The Batman 2".
Of course, Keanu Reeves will play the leading role. If the film is well received by viewers, a series of sequels could also be released. There should definitely be no shortage of content – after all, the comic series comprises four books.
But that's not all: Netflix is also currently developing an anime series. According to initial information, this is a spin-off that will expand on several elements of the universe. During the San Diego Comic Con, it was confirmed that the Japanese animation studio Production I.G. is producing the series. The studio's previous works include "Ghost in the Shell" and "Eden of the East" – so they are absolute professionals. Two seasons of the series are planned at the moment, leaving room for more, of course.
The release date
With all the anticipation, it must also be emphasized that there is no release date for either the film or the series yet. Not much has happened since the 2021 announcement – and even a Keanu Reeves isn't getting any younger. We therefore hope that production is finally getting off the ground and can't wait to see the result of Keanu Reeves's personal comic adaptation. We'll keep you posted!
