A "Warhammer 40,000" adaptation starring Henry Cavill has been in the works for some time. And now things seem to be moving forward. According to Deadline, a series is reportedly in the works, with Mike Flanagan potentially taking the lead. The filmmaker is being considered as showrunner and executive producer. There is also talk that he is slated to serve as director and screenwriter.

Amazon MGM Studios acquired global rights to "Warhammer 40,000" back in December 2024, with Cavill set to serve as executive producer and take on the lead role. The source material is originally a tabletop game by Games Workshop, set in a distant, dystopian future in which conflicts erupt between humanity, aliens, and supernatural creatures.

Mike Flanagan is an expert in horror

No details have been released about what the potential series adaptation will be about. We'll also have to wait and see what role Cavill will play. In any case, Mike Flanagan would be an interesting choice as showrunner, which could suggest that the series might feature some horror elements. At this point, this is merely speculation, but it's not unlikely, given that Flanagan is best known for his work in the genre.

In recent years, he has made a name for himself in cinema as a writer and director with projects such as his Stephen King adaptation "Doctor Sleep". Next year, he'll bring a new "Exorcist" film to the big screen. He is also one of the screenwriters for the upcoming DC horror film "Clayface." In addition, he has enriched the world of television with several horror series, including "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Midnight Mass." "Carrie," another Stephen King adaptation by Mike Flanagan, is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. The first trailer was already released during this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Here's a sneak peek at what to expect from the new series:

A labor of love for Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill's profile has risen significantly, primarily due to his role as Superman in the DC films directed by Zack Snyder. In recent years, he has appeared in films such as "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" as well as the Guy Ritchie films "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" and "In the Grey." He has also made a name for himself as the former lead actor in the fantasy series "The Witcher." The remake of the fantasy film "Highlander," in which Cavill will also play the lead role, is highly anticipated.

"Warhammer 40,000" is a project close to the actor's heart. He told Esquire magazine last year that bringing the world of "Warhammer 40,000" to life would be "a dream come true" for him. We're curious to see how the planned adaptation turns out.
