Lanterns: These are the Main Actors of the DC Series!
Aaron Pierre celebrated his debut with "Old"
Finally: After several casting rumors, it has now been confirmed which two actors will provide law and order as Green Lanterns in the DCU world.
As Variety exclusively reports, Aaron Pierre will be playing the role of John Stewart. Pierre made his debut in the movie "Old" by M. Night Shyamalan. He was last seen in the thriller "Rebel Ridge" on Netflix and was able to win over a larger audience. Kyle Chandler –known from "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Bloodline", for example - is now actually taking on the role of Hal Jordan.
The DC series "Lanterns" revolves around John Stewart and Hal Jordan, who investigate a mysterious crime on Earth as intergalactic police officers. So far, information about the story of "Lanterns" is limited. But it has been revealed that it is about a so-called "dark, Earth-based mystery" that draws the two Green Lanterns deep into a conspiracy.
"Lanterns" is written by Chris Mundy, who has already worked on "Ozark" and "True Detective". James Hawes, who has already directed series such as "Black Mirror" and "Snowpiercer", will direct the first two episodes of "Lanterns". A release date has not been set yet.
The DC Universe (DCU) is currently undergoing a major transformation under the creative direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who want to take the franchise into a new phase. After years of success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) , the focus is now on relaunching the DCU with a more coherent and comprehensive approach. In addition to the movies, series play a key role in this new direction.
1. Creature Commandos
One of the first series announced is "Creature Commandos", an animated series developed by James Gunn himself. Gunn is known for his unconventional approach and characters, and "Creature Commandos" fits this style perfectly. The series is based on a group of monsters and freaks who fight for the military in World War II. It consists of characters such as Frankenstein, a werewolf, a vampiress and a gorgon.
Although the series is animated, it will be part of the larger DCU canon, and some of the characters may later appear in live-action projects. James Gunn has emphasized that the voice actors will also play their roles in possible live-action appearances, meaning the line between animation and live-action could blur in the new DCU.
2. Waller
"Waller" will be a series centered around the character Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, who previously starred in the "Suicide Squad" films and the "Peacemaker" series. Amanda Waller is a ruthless government official who leads Task Force X (also known as the Suicide Squad).
The series will pick up on the events after the first season of Peacemaker and continue to focus on Waller. She is considered one of the most complex and morally ambivalent characters in the DC Universe. Waller will likely introduce more political and military intrigue to the DCU while creating connections to other series and movies.
3. Lanterns
One of the most highly anticipated series is "Lanterns," which will center around two of the most well-known Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The Green Lantern Corps are an intergalactic police force that protects the universe, and Jordan and Stewart are among its most prominent members.
The series is described as a crime-style story in which the two Lanterns uncover a major mystery on Earth that could have far-reaching implications for the entire DCU. The series will combine both cosmic and down-to-earth elements, diving deeper into the Lantern Corps and the mythology surrounding the Green Lantern. "Lanterns" has the potential to set the stage for larger intergalactic conflicts in the DCU.
4. Paradise Lost
"Paradise Lost" will be a series set on Themyscira, home of the Amazons and the legendary heroine Wonder Woman. However, the series will be set before the events of the "Wonder Woman" films and will serve as a kind of prequel. It will revolve around the political schemes and power struggles on the island and explore the origins of the Amazons.
The series is often compared to "Game of Thrones" as it is said to take a dark and complex look at Themyscira, where different factions fight for control of the island. It remains to be seen if familiar characters like Diana (Wonder Woman) will make an appearance in the series, but "Paradise Lost" will certainly delve deeper into the mythology of the Amazons and potentially pave the way for future "Wonder Woman" projects.
5. Booster Gold
Another planned series centers around "Booster Gold", one of the DC Universe's weirdest and most beloved characters. Booster Gold is a man from the future who travels from his time to the present by misusing technology to become a superhero and gain fame and recognition. However, he is often more of a joke character than a serious hero.
The series will focus on Booster's journey as he tries to prove himself as a real superhero while battling his own ego and insecurities. With its unconventional humor and time travel theme, "Booster Gold" could be a unique and entertaining addition to the DCU.
6. Peacemaker - Season 2
After the huge success of the first season of "Peacemaker", a second season of the series is being planned. Peacemaker, played by John Cena, is an antihero who is prepared to kill for peace. The series, created by James Gunn, was a big hit on HBO Max and one of the first DCU series to be picked up in the DCU's new continuity plan.
The second season will continue Peacemaker's story as he confronts the consequences of his actions from the first season. Additionally, "Peacemaker" is expected to continue to make connections to other DCU series and movies, which could make him an important character in the new DCU.
