"Fast & Furious" fans, take note! The Hollywood Reporter has officially confirmed that a series based on the hit action franchise is in the works. Vin Diesel had already publicly announced the project back in May during NBCUniversal's Upfronts. At the time, the star even mentioned four planned series. However, Peacock subsequently clarified that only one series project is currently in development.

Behind the scenes, the project is also slowly taking shape. Mike Daniels, who has worked on "Sons of Anarchy", among other shows, will co-write the pilot script with Wolfe Coleman. Coleman previously worked on "9-1-1: Lone Star", among other projects. Both will also serve as showrunners. "Fast & Furious" star Vin Diesel is also on board as an executive producer.

No details about the cast have been released. Nor is it known exactly when the series will premiere or what its title will be. According to initial reports, however, Peacock plans to launch the project in 2028, coinciding with the release of "Fast & Furious 11".

The Chaos Surrounding Fast & Furious 11

In stark contrast to the series, there still seems to be disagreement regarding the film franchise's grand finale. In an interview with Variety, Diesel provided a promising update on the start of filming for the sequel. For the first time, he mentioned a specific timeframe for when filming will actually begin: It looks like December 2026 is the date! However, the matter doesn't seem to be set in stone just yet. Diesel made it clear that the start date depends on whether he can meet certain studio requirements beforehand. So, once again, his statements should be taken with a grain of salt.

The star also explained that he had been working with several writing teams over a period of about four years to craft a worthy story for the new adventure. After reading the latest draft of the script a few weeks ago, he said he became emotional and even cried. For him, the script seems to strike exactly the emotional chord he had hoped for in his farewell to the "Fast & Furious" family.

However, director Louis Leterrier's statements are in direct contradiction to this . While Diesel is enthusiastic about the current draft, Leterrier recently explained in an interview with Polygon that he hadn't even read the script at that point. This naturally raises questions about the actual status of production. So it remains to be seen when filming will finally begin. "Fast & Furious 11" is still scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

The film's direction also hasn't been fully determined yet. It's unclear whether "Fast Forever" will be a direct sequel to the events so far or if the plot will take a new direction to wrap up the franchise. The only thing that's certain so far is that the film aims to return to the series' roots. That means fewer space adventures and more classic street races in Los Angeles.

The Return of Paul Walker

In mid-2025, a completely unexpected announcement caused quite a stir. According to Vin Diesel, he made his participation contingent on three strict conditions: the story must return to Los Angeles, there must be a return to street racing, and Dom and Brian O'Conner must be reunited.

The last point, in particular, raises major questions. Paul Walker, who played Brian, tragically died in a car accident in 2013. While his character lives on in the film universe, he has stepped back from the dangerous action. In the seventh installment, he was given a fitting send-off with the help of his brothers Caleb and Cody, as well as elaborate digital effects – a scene that remains the emotional highlight of the series for countless fans to this day.

Exactly how Brian O'Conner will be integrated into "Fast & Furious 11" remains unclear. The most likely scenario is a relatively minor appearance, once again brought to life through CGI, body doubles, and perhaps even AI this time around. Whether fans will celebrate such a digital appearance, however, is another matter entirely.
