Uma Thurman cast in Dexter sequel
Michael C. Hall and other series stars return
Casting additions for the sequel to the popular series "Dexter". According to Deadline, "Kill Bill" star Uma Thurman will take on an important role in the Dexter sequel.
Dexter: Resurrection
The series "Dexter: Resurrection" will follow on from the sequel "Dexter: New Blood". "New Blood" already continued the original series in 2021. Filming for "Resurrection" is already underway and the series will be released on Paramount+ with Showtime in June 2025.
There is little information regarding the plot of the series. The current prequel "Dexter: Original Sin", which can also be seen on Paramount+ with Showtime, provides some first clues.
Uma Thurman casting
However, there are a few members of the cast to report. Uma Thurman will play the head of security for a billionaire. Her character also has a past as a Special Ops officer. Uma Thurman gained fame for her roles in Tarantino films, among others. She was seen as Mia Wallace in the classic "Pulp Fiction" and in the leading role in the "Kill Bill" films.
Michael C. Hall and other cast members return
The most important news: Michael C. Hall will return for "Dexter: Resurrection". He will therefore once again slip into the iconic role of serial killer Dexter Morgan.
Two other veterans of the original series, David Zayas as Angel Batista and James Remar as Harry Morgan, will also appear in the prequel. Jack Alcott, known from "New Blood", will also return as Dexter's son Harrison.
Just as relevant for fans: Clyde Phillips will once again act as showrunner for the series. Phillips already took on this role in the first four seasons of "Dexter" - for many fans the best seasons of the original series. We hope that the quality of these seasons can be continued.
A look back at Dexter
"Dexter" is one of the most distinctive and controversial series of the 21st century. It first aired in 2006 on the US cable channel Showtime and quickly became a cult phenomenon. The series tells the story of Dexter Morgan, a forensic scientist with the Miami Metro police who lives a secret double life: As a serial killer, he hunts down criminals who have escaped the law. What made "Dexter" so unique was not only the gripping plot, but also the complex exploration of themes such as justice, morality and the human psyche.
The creation of "Dexter"
The series was developed by James Manos Jr. and is based on the "Dexter" book series by Jeff Lindsay. Michael C. Hall, known from the series "Six Feet Under", took on the role of Dexter Morgan. Dexter is a man with a traumatic past, which is revealed in the course of the first season. Dexter grew up with a foster family. His adoptive father, a police officer, recognized Dexter's homicidal tendencies early on and shaped him to direct his violent actions only against criminals who have escaped the law.
The mixture of thriller elements, psychological abysses and moral dilemmas gave the series an unusual depth and showed something completely new.
A complex protagonist: Dexter Morgan
Dexter Morgan is the epitome of a modern anti-hero. He is charming, intellectual and often likeable, but also an ice-cold serial killer. What sets him apart from other murderers is his strict "code", taught to him by his adoptive father Harry: Dexter only kills people who themselves have innocent lives on their conscience. This code not only serves as the moral basis for Dexter's actions, but is also the central conflict of the series, as Dexter is repeatedly confronted with the question of what is "right" or "wrong". While the viewer often empathizes with him, the dark side of his personality becomes clear at the same time.
Michael C. Hall delivered an impressive portrayal of Dexter Morgan. He reveals both the inner conflicts and the cold, methodical side of the protagonist. The character continued to develop over eight seasons, which made the series just as exciting.
The central theme: justice and morality
In every season, "Dexter" deals with the question of what is just. The series constantly raises the question of how far individuals are allowed to go in order to act for the supposed good of society. Dexter's attempts to lead a "normal" life - as a brother or friend - also cause deeper moral conflicts due to his murderous tendencies.
Another central theme of the series is family. Dexter's relationship with his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), who also works for the police, is important from the beginning. Dexter has always tried to hide his dark side from her, but over the course of the series she is repeatedly confronted with his secret identity. The dynamic between the two characters is an essential part of the dramatic arc of suspense.
The development of the series
Over the course of its eight seasons, "Dexter" has taken numerous twists and turns that not only maintained the tension but also advanced the character development. The fourth season, in which Dexter is confronted with the "Trinity Killer" played by John Lithgow, is particularly noteworthy. The last few seasons, on the other hand, were rather controversial. The finale of the eighth season (and therefore the original series finale) was largely received negatively.
The return: "Dexter: New Blood" and "Dexter: Resurrection"
In 2021, the series returned with a revival: "Dexter: New Blood" was a sequel to the original series and continued the story of Dexter Morgan. In this season, Dexter tries to leave his old life behind. In 2025, the character will now be seen on screens once again.
