Avengers: Endgame Extended
Before the big showdown at the end of the year, we'll really get things going in the fall of 2026. It all kicks off on September 25 with a very special re-release: "Avengers: Endgame Extended". To get fans perfectly in the mood for the upcoming "Doomsday" event, Marvel is bringing its biggest and most successful masterpiece to date back to the big screen in an extended version – with new scenes and new colors. Say goodbye to Robert Downey Jr. one last time – before his triumphant return in the next "Avengers" movie.
Street Fighter
Shortly thereafter, on October 16, comes a movie that gaming fans have been waiting for an extremely long time: the remake of "Street Fighter". That's right: after many years, they're actually taking another stab at the legendary video game series! The old movie from the '90s is considered a quirky guilty pleasure today, but of course, a perfect film adaptation looks quite different. The trailers already promise that the filmmakers have brilliantly captured the chaos and fun of the original. We can't wait!
Godzilla Minus Zero
Want something even bigger? "Godzilla Minus Zero" hits theaters on November 6. This is the direct and highly anticipated sequel to the sensational Oscar-winning "Godzilla Minus One". While Hollywood's MonsterVerse often relies on pure popcorn cinema, director Yamazaki remains true to his vision of a dark, grounded exploration of trauma, war, and destruction. This is likely to be a visual and narrative highlight of our movie year, one that will hopefully prove once again that even monster movies can have depth.
How to Rob a Bank
Things are sure to get significantly faster-paced and more modern on November 13 with "How to Rob a Bank". Action expert David Leitch delivers a cutting-edge heist thriller: It centers on a gang of social-media-savvy bank robbers who stream their daring heists live online. What they don't realize, however, is that their viral fame has drawn the attention of extremely clever FBI investigators. Starring Nicholas Hoult and Zoë Kravitz, this stylish chase film aims to bring the classic bank heist genre into the digital age. Will it succeed? With the director of "Bullet Train" at the helm, we're not too worried.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
On November 20, 2026, the Games begin again: With "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping", we return to the dystopian world of Panem. This time, we're traveling to the 50th Hunger Games, where the young Haymitch Abernathy is thrown into the arena. In the book, these particular Games are known for their unimaginable brutality, as twice as many tributes are sent into the arena. At first glance, the arena is beautiful, but it's absolutely deadly. Even though we already know how the story ends, this could be one of the most emotionally charged and psychologically intense films in the entire series.
Violent Night 2
December 4, 2026, brings us just as much violence – but also plenty of dark humor – with "Violent Night 2". David Harbour returns as a hard-drinking, axe-wielding Santa Claus! We're looking forward to even more creative, absurd, and brutal action sequences as Santa once again takes on extremely naughty boys and girls to celebrate the festival of blows.
Avengers: Doomsday
Then, finally, the legendary week in December awaits us – one that could literally make movie history: Kicking things off on December 18, 2026, is the major MCU event: "Avengers: Doomsday". Marvel aims to prove – for the second time this year – that they've still got what it takes. Robert Downey Jr. returns – though not as the heroic Tony Stark, but as the iconic and ruthless villain Doctor Doom! Will it be a return to former glory, or a massive flop? Marvel had better deliver, because the competition isn't sleeping.
Dune 3
It hits theaters just one day later: "Dune 3" opens on December 18. This massive and visually breathtaking sci-fi epic from master director Denis Villeneuve thus brings the trilogy to a provisional conclusion. Paul Atreides has seized power in the universe and unleashed a merciless holy war. Now he must face the terrible and bloody consequences of his reign. An incredible box office showdown lies ahead. "Doomsday" is, of course, the favorite. But what happens if the film fails to impress in terms of quality?
Jumanji: Open World
In fact, the year of action isn't over yet: "Jumanji: Open World" is also coming out on December 25. The tried-and-true team led by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan aims to win us over once again with plenty of mayhem and humor. Of the three end-of-year blockbusters, this is certainly the most lighthearted, mindless fun option. Will it be just as compelling as its two predecessors?
The Beekeeper 2
2027 kicks off on a slightly smaller scale, but no less fun: On January 15, Jason Statham returns with "The Beekeeper 2"! The first installment was a minor surprise hit, featuring honest, down-to-earth action without a lot of story baggage and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor. We're confident that Statham will once again expertly smoke out a whole hive of corrupt elites, greedy corporate executives, and nasty mercenaries.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova
Things will get significantly more gigantic on March 26, 2027, with "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova". The MonsterVerse continues to expand rapidly and unstoppably – this time with a new threat from space: SpaceGodzilla! But let's be honest: as long as giant CGI monsters are battling it out on the big screen in creative, powerful, and spectacular ways, we're thoroughly entertained either way. We're also eagerly anticipating one of the final on-screen appearances by the recently deceased Sam Neill. We hope it will be a fitting farewell for this great acting legend.
Cliffhanger
Speaking of legends: An old action hit starring Sylvester Stallone is getting a reboot in 2027 – on April 24, a remake of "Cliffhanger" awaits us. This time, Lily James and Pierce Brosnan star in the lead roles. The story follows an experienced mountain guide in the Italian Dolomites and his daughters, who are targeted by a brutal gang of kidnappers during an outing. A classic, nerve-wracking action-thriller set against a breathtaking natural backdrop? Count us in!
Star Wars: Starfighter
In early summer, we'll finally be heading back to a galaxy far, far away: "Star Wars: Starfighter" hits theaters on May 28. Directed by Shawn Levy, the acclaimed filmmaker behind movies like "Deadpool & Wolverine", the story takes place about five years after the events of "Episode 9". However, this new installment is said to have nothing to do with the Skywalker films. Instead, we'll see A-list star Ryan Gosling, who must protect a young protégé from evil henchmen. We're curious to see how the next Star Wars cinematic adventure will fare – especially compared to "The Mandalorian and Grogu".
Man of Tomorrow
On July 9, 2027, James Gunn will deliver the next chapter in the Superman saga, "Man of Tomorrow". Following the controversial first film and the "Supergirl" flop, this new chapter in the DCU is under a lot of pressure. According to the director, it won't be a conventional sequel, but rather a sort of crossover event. So we're expecting plenty of different characters again. Will Gunn be able to win over fans of the old DCEU this time? Either way, it's sure to be a cinematic spectacle.
The Mummy 4
A completely different project, however, has a huge sympathy bonus going for it: On October 15, the highly anticipated new sequel to "The Mummy", starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, hits theaters! Numerous cast members from the cult series are returning for this film – so nostalgia is guaranteed. Filming has recently begun. We're curious to see if the original team can recapture the magic of the first two films – since Part 3 is being completely ignored – or if the franchise should perhaps remain buried after all.
Avengers: Secret Wars
The grand finale will then come on December 17, 2027, with the massive Marvel finale: "Avengers: Secret Wars". It's the epic conclusion to the Multiverse saga. This film faces the monumental, almost impossible task of eclipsing everything that has come before in terms of scale and providing the ultimate, fitting finale for many of our favorite heroes. It will undoubtedly be a historic cinematic event!
