KPop Demon Hunters 2 Is Coming! The Release Date for the Netflix Sequel
However, fans will need to be very patient
"KPop Demon Hunters" fans are celebrating: The sensational success is being continued! According to media reports, a sequel is officially in the works at Netflix and Sony.
Even an approximate start date has already been set – but patience is required. The release of "KPop Demon Hunters 2" is not planned until 2029. The filmmakers are currently in final talks with Netflix and Sony. It is unclear whether the sequel will premiere in theaters first or be released directly on Netflix again.
The fact that a sequel to the animated film is actually coming should hardly surprise anyone. After all, "KPop Demon Hunters" is the most successful Netflix film ever. Director Maggie Kang has long been convinced that there should be a sequel.
"We've set up so much for potential backstory. Obviously, there's a lot of questions that are left unanswered [...]. We had to do that because there's only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes."
The original plan was to tell more about Zoey and Mira in the first part. But it "just wasn't the movie for those stories". So it's quite possible that the two will be more in focus in the sequel.

The KPop Demon Hunters live-action film
Word has it that more stories from the "KPop Demon Hunters" universe may be in the works. That reportedly includes, above all, a live-action adaptation. However, the director of the original is skeptical.
"There's so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation. It's really hard to imagine these characters in a live action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn't work for me."
According to The Wrap's sources, a musical, a series and a short film are also being considered. However, given the enormous success this is hardly surprising. Netflix and Sony obviously recognize great franchise potential.

This is what "K-Pop Demon Hunters" is about
The movie has an unusual premise: It centers on the K-Pop group HUNTR/X with a secret double life as demon hunters. They have to compete against a boy band whose members are demons. It will be interesting to see what the next adventures of Rumi, Mira and Zoey will look like. Of course, it remains to be seen whether any of the projects mentioned will actually be realized in the end.
The KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon
"KPop Demon Hunters" has become one of the most exciting new pop culture phenomena. The animated film unites two worlds that at first glance hardly seem to fit together – the glittering stage of K-pop combined with the fantasy adventure genre. This unusual mixture has proved to be a recipe for success: Action, humor, music and magic intertwine perfectly here.
The original premise, paired with modern animations and an energetic soundtrack, has struck a chord with a global fan base. The film has triggered a huge wave on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube in particular – countless fanarts, dance videos and remixes show just how much the story and its characters inspire.

"KPop Demon Hunters" is also a hit musically. Several songs from the film went viral, made it into the charts and are streamed millions of times. The soundtrack includes hits such as "How It's Done", "Soda Pop", "Your Idol", "What It Sounds Like", "Golden", "Free" and "Takedown". The project thus proves that it not only works as a movie, but also as a multimedia experience. You can find the songs on our YouTube channel KinoCheck Family.
Its success impressively demonstrates the extent to which Korean pop culture and international animation can now merge. "KPop Demon Hunters" is therefore also a symbol of the global influence of K-pop, female empowerment stories and modern, creative narrative forms. And everything points to the fact that this is just the beginning of a much bigger franchise adventure.
