Michael 2: The release date for the second Michael Jackson biopic is drawing closer – release window revealed
There is already footage from the first movie that is intended to be used in the sequel
It's probably only a matter of time before "Michael 2," the sequel to the successful Michael Jackson biopic, hits theaters. Now, one of the people in charge has spoken out: Adam Fogelson, who serves as film chair at the production company Lionsgate. According to Fogelson, production is slated to begin toward the end of this year or early next year, as reported by Deadline. This also brings the theatrical release date closer. Fogelson was unable to provide a specific date. However, he did outline a timeframe: Currently, it's safe to assume that the "Michael" sequel will likely be released between the end of next year and the first half of 2028.
In the first "Michael" film, Jaafar Jackson plays the role of the King of Pop. The biopic chronicles Michael Jackson's childhood in the 1960s, his rise to stardom as the lead singer of the Jackson 5, and his subsequent breakthrough as a solo artist. The focus is on the albums "Off the Wall" and its follow-up, "Thriller," which became the best-selling album of all time in the early 1980s. The film ends with a performance of the hit "Bad" in the late 1980s. Everything that followed in Jackson's life and career could therefore theoretically be used for the sequel. "We do have a number of sequences, particularly some big musical sequences, that were shot previously, that are almost sure to be incorporated, but we are mostly focused right now on how to make sure we can deliver, at the right price, the biggest, best sequel. That is what the audience is going to want and deserve after the experience we gave them the first time."

It remains to be seen whether director Antoine Fuqua will be on board again. The same goes for the cast. That said, it's safe to assume that Jaafar Jackson will reprise his role as the King of Pop. The actor is Michael Jackson's nephew and made his film debut in the biopic. His performance brought him to the attention of a global audience and opened the door to further roles. He's already landed his next role, as was recently announced. Jaafar Jackson will appear alongside Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb in "Supermax." The film centers on two FBI agents (played by Smith and Robb) investigating a murder case. What makes it unique is that the crime was committed in a maximum-security prison. Details about Jackson's role have not yet been revealed, but there is talk of a character who is said to be crucial to the story.
