Although the first "Maze Runner" movie is only 10 years old, Disney is apparently already making plans for a soft reboot of the franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, this will not be a mere retelling of the first three movies, but rather another adventure from "The Maze Runner" universe that could serve as the start of a new trilogy.

Disney has secured screenwriter Jack Paglen, who was previously involved in "Transcendence" with Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant", to write the screenplay for the as of yet untitled film. Moreover, the majority of the production team that worked on the original trilogy will also be returning. The question of the director's position remains unanswered for the time being, though - Wes Ball will only be involved in the project as a producer this time.

Although the exact plot of the new "Maze Runner" film is still unknown, the makers are planning to continue or add to the familiar storyline, according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources. The plot could therefore once again center on a group of young people who have to fight for their lives. A release date is not known yet.
