New Alien Movie: Ridley Scott brings top writer on board
He has worked with Aaron Guzikowski before
A new "Alien" movie is gradually taking shape. According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski has now been hired to bring Ridley Scott's vision for the new science-fiction horror sequel to life on paper. Scott is serving as a producer on the project alongside Michael Pruss. At this point, however, he is not expected to direct the film. It therefore remains to be seen who will direct the film.
Guzikowski has made a name for himself as a top screenwriter, among other things, with his screenplay for Denis Villeneuve's thriller "Prisoners," starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. He has previously collaborated with Ridley Scott. Guzikowski is the creator of the sci-fi series "Raised by Wolves," for which Scott served as executive producer and directed the first two episodes.
The plot of Aaron Guzikowski's new "Alien" film has been kept under wraps so far. However, it is not expected to be a sequel to the latest "Alien: Romulus" by director Fede Álvarez, which was released in 2024 and was also produced by Ridley Scott. Instead, the now-planned "Alien" film is said to follow on from the "Alien" prequels "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant."
Will Michael Fassbender make a comeback in the new Alien movie?
Just a few months ago, Scott revealed to the Los Angeles Times that he is working on a new "Alien" film. The director made it clear that the android David, previously played by Michael Fassbender, is set to play a central role. Fassbender appeared as the artificial being in the "Alien" prequel "Prometheus" and its sequel, "Alien: Covenant." The android was created by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) to join him in the search for the creators of humanity. Over the course of the two films, David continues to evolve – in a way that becomes increasingly unsettling. Scott is fascinated by the character and wants to continue the android's story to show how David creates a "brave new world" of his own. However, it is not yet known whether Fassbender will reprise the role of the android.
Numerous Sequels
In the science fiction and horror genres, the "Alien" series has left a lasting impression. The first film, released in 1979, remains a celebrated classic to this day. Director Ridley Scott achieved a genre milestone with "Alien," against which the franchise's numerous sequels must measure up. Above all, the direct sequel ,"Aliens," is certainly on parwith it. In 1986, James Cameron directed a sequel that consistently builds on the first film. This is especially true of the development of the protagonist Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, who becomes more complex in the second installment. At the same time, the film undergoes a shift in genre: rather than horror, the focus here is more on action.
With "Alien 3," David Fincher directed a sequel in 1992 that is at times so bleak that this bleakness takes on a charm all its own. This was followed in 1997 by the last installment to date in which Sigourney Weaver took center stage as Ellen Ripley: "Alien: Resurrection," directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The subsequent "Alien" films no longer centered on Ripley – neither in Ridley Scott's prequels nor in the crossover films featuring encounters with the alien hunters from the "Predator" franchise.
