Zodiac, Marvel Zombies & X-Men 97: Marvel Announces New Disney+ Series
We can look forward to these highlights in the coming years!
Good news for all MCU fans: At this year's New York Comic Con, Marvel announced numerous new series for Disney+. According to The Hollywood Reporter, these included the mysterious thriller series "Zodiac", new projects based on "Marvel: Zombies", and the third season of "X-Men '97".
Zodiac: New Spy Series Premieres in 2028
One of the biggest surprises of the panel was the announcement of "Zodiac". The new live-action series is a spy thriller set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2028. Filming is scheduled to begin in London in the spring of 2027. The casting process is set to begin in the coming weeks.
Brad Winderbaum, who oversees streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed the first details about the production. At the same time, he made it clear that the studio wants to reveal as little as possible about the project. However, the first logo offers some clues that the series might be connected to the secret organization S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel Zombies Returns with Three New Specials
Fans of the gory animated series "Marvel Zombies" also have reason to celebrate. Marvel has announced a series of three two-part specials set to premiere on Disney+ over the course of several years. The series kicks off with "The Winter Soldier", scheduled for the 2027 Halloween season. The second installment, "The Fist of Konshu", is set to follow in 2028. The series concludes with "The Last Guardian", which is expected to be released on Halloween 2029. Brian Andrews, who previously worked on "What If…?", will once again take the director's chair. According to Winderbaum, viewers can look forward to a mix of brutal action, gory scenes, and impressive animation.
Spider-Man Faces New Foes
Meanwhile, a specific premiere date has already been set for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man". The second season of the animated series premieres on January 13, 2027, on Disney+. Series creator Jeff Trammell explained at Comic-Con that Peter Parker will be significantly further along in the new episodes than he was at the start of his superhero career. While the first season primarily focused on his transformation into Spider-Man and provided him with a mentor, he must now hold his own without that support. Among other things, the young hero will once again face off against Doctor Otto Octavius and Scorpion. Additional villains are also set to cause trouble. Peter will therefore be forced to hone his skills and continue to grow as a person.
X-Men '97: Season 3 Delivers Emotional Moments
"X-Men '97" was also a topic of discussion at the panel. Although no specific details about the third season were revealed, Brad Winderbaum expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming episodes. One of them is apparently set to be particularly emotional. This suggests that the animated series will continue to focus on more than just spectacular battles. Instead, the mutants' personal conflicts and relationships are likely to play an important role once again.
Daredevil: Born Again: Is Season 3 the End?
The reunion of Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Finn Jones drew a great deal of attention. The three actors, known from "Marvel's The Defenders", spoke about their return to the Marvel Universe and offered a preview of the third season of "Daredevil: Born Again". Whether this truly marks the end of the series remains unclear.
When asked about this, Cox responded with a telling comment: He expects the campaign to save "Daredevil" to pick up steam again soon. He was alluding to the fan movement that had campaigned for a continuation after the original Netflix series ended. Most recently, The Hollywood Reporter reported that there will definitely not be a fourth season.
In addition, attendees were shown a brief clip from the third season, featuring Matt Murdock in an action scene. However, no further details about the plot were revealed.
VisionQuest Offers First Glimpses
The panel was rounded out with news about "VisionQuest". Series creator Terry Matalas took the stage alongside Paul Bettany, Emily Hampshire, Ruaridh Mollica, and James Spader. The pilot episode of the upcoming series was then shown. The footage presented suggests that themes such as family and self-sacrifice will play an important role. At the same time, Marvel doesn't seem to be neglecting humor: some scenes revolved around interacting with a group of sentient robots. No further plot details were initially announced at the event.
The presentation made it clear that Marvel is planning numerous series and specials for Disney+ in the coming years. Rumors of an imminent end to the Marvel series thus seem to have vanished into thin air for now. We can't wait!
