A new Keanu Reeves movie is in the works! The "John Wick" star will once again live up to his reputation as an action hero, taking on the lead role in the spy thriller "Kill Current," according to industry magazine Deadline.

"Kill Current" is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by author Oliver Lowe. However, the book itself has not yet been published—its release is scheduled for May 2027. The publisher, Zando, has already shared the first official plot details:

"Jon Hendricks is pulled back into the Agency when the operative he trained vanishes mid-op. The case turns out to be big. There's a technology no government can explain but every government wants: a piece of hardware that isn't supposed to exist for another decade."

The action film Kill Current

The story is described as a true espionage thriller: tensions between three governments, shadowy intelligence agencies, and international locations. The plot takes us from Shanghai to Berlin. However, it won't stop at just one novel—according to Deadline, an entire book series is planned.

It remains to be seen whether multiple films in the thriller series will be produced. At this time, no details regarding the release date of "Kill Current" are known. What is already clear, however, is that Reeves will also produce the film. The actor told Deadline:

"I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to develop the character Jon Hendricks with these wonderful collaborators [including The Arena and Zando] and that this is the project that launches [the production banner] Two Dragonflies which I share with my partner, Alexandra Grant."

For Keanu Reeves, of course, the action genre is anything but new territory. The actor is one of the defining action stars of his generation. He gained worldwide fame, among other things, for his role as Neo in the "Matrix" trilogy, before creating a new cult figure of the genre as the hitman John Wick in the film series of the same name. His other well-known action films include "Speed" and "Point Break."

More Keanu Reeves Movies in the Works

Shiver

But "Kill Current" is by no means the fan favorite's only upcoming project. Together with "Deadpool" director Tim Miller, Reeves is developing a wacky sci-fi film titled "Shiver." In it, the "Matrix" star plays a smuggler tasked with completing a job in the Caribbean. Along the way, he has to deal with pirates, dead bodies, and hungry sharks. But that's not all: he's also trapped in a deadly time loop!

This wild mix of genres is said to be somewhat reminiscent of the popular sci-fi action film "Edge of Tomorrow," starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. "Shiver" hits theaters on August 13, 2027.

BRZRKR

An adaptation of "BRZRKR" has also been in the works for some time. It's a comic book series that Reeves himself developed and wrote together with author Matt Kindt. Netflix now plans to adapt the series into a film.

The story revolves around the immortal warrior "B": a demigod who has been living on Earth for 80,000 years. Born to a human father and a divine mother, he was brought into the world to be invincible. His life is marked by endless violence, as he has fought and killed in countless conflicts. However, this immortality is not only a gift, but also a curse that consumes Bs' body and soul. He is now in the service of the US government and fights battles for them that are too violent and too dangerous for others.

"BRZRKR" is set to be directed by "Fast & Furious" director Justin Lin. A release date has not yet been announced. In our movie preview, we took a closer look at the project:
