The book continues the story from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino releases a new book that coincides with the upcoming release of the Netflix film "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth". The novel, with the similar title "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," continues the story from "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," just like the upcoming movie sequel. At the center of the story is the eponymous Cliff Booth, who is once again played by Brad Pitt in the film.

The book will be published on December 8, 2026, by HarperCollins. An official plot description has already been released. The HarperCollins website states:

"Hollywood, 1977. The Swinging Sixties are long gone – but Clifford Booth keeps on keeping on. War hero, stuntman, bartender, cinema projectionist with the occasional 'clandestine services' for his friends."

"The Adventures of Cliff Booth" is not Tarantino's first novel. He also wrote a book based on "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," which was first published in 2021 and essentially retells the story of his film. However, in the novel of the same name, he also included passages that differ from the film adaptation. With his 2022 work "Cinema Speculation", he also authored a nonfiction book that deals, among other things, with film criticism and film theory.

When the new Cliff Booth movie starring Brad Pitt premieres on Netflix

The release date for the "Cliff Booth" film had already been announced. Tarantino's novel will be published between the theatrical release and the Netflix premiere of "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth." Specifically, this means the film will be shown in IMAX theaters worldwide for two weeks starting November 25, 2026. It will premiere on Netflix on December 23, 2026.

We first saw the character of Cliff Booth in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." The 2019 film, which Tarantino directed and wrote, was set in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. Lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio played the struggling actor Rick Dalton. Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt, was Dalton's stunt double. Like in Tarantino's newly announced novel, the story of the upcoming Netflix film "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth" is set in 1977 – a few years after the events of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Hollywood has changed quite a bit in the meantime – and Booth has to come to terms with that. Exactly what else the story will be about remains to be seen.

David Fincher follows in Quentin Tarantino's footsteps

For "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth," Tarantino handed the directing reins to a colleague: David Fincher. Tarantino himself, however, is involved in the film as a screenwriter. He apparently had no interest in directing, as he has long planned to conclude his filmography with his tenth film. However, the film that is presumed to be the final one of his directing career is not supposed to be a sequel. With Fincher as the new director, the project should still be in good hands. Especially since he has worked with lead actor Brad Pitt on several occasions: Under Fincher's direction, the Hollywood star played the lead role in the thrillers "Seven" and "Fight Club," as well as in the fantasy drama "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

For Pitt, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" proved to be a career highlight. The film was well-received by critics, with Pitt in particular leaving a lasting impression. As a result, he was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 Oscars. In "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth," we'll see him alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. Pitt is also involved as a producer.

Before that, we'll see Pitt in "Heart of the Beast." In this thriller, he plays a Special Forces officer who survives a plane crash in Alaska with his retired combat dog. Together, they must find a way to survive in the wilderness. "Heart of the Beast" hits theaters on September 25, 2026. You can get a glimpse of the thriller in the trailer:
