The Straw Hat Pirates will soon be setting sail again! Following the huge success of the first season, Netflix has finally announced the release date for the second season of the live-action series "One Piece": From March 10, 2026, Monkey D. Luffy and his crew will continue their search for the legendary treasure.

A series of new images were also released showing Luffy and his crew in the snowy surroundings of Drum Island. The full cast will of course be returning for the new season. A special highlight for fans: Tony Tony Chopper, the talking reindeer doctor, is finally joining the crew. The popular character has been a fan favorite in the original for years and should also provide many emotional and humorous moments in the live-action version.

Netflix also announced that the Straw Hats will meet the dangerous Sir Crocodile, played by Joe Manganiello. Also joining the cast is Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, better known as Nico Robin, who will play a significant role in the plot for the future of the crew.

And although the second season of "One Piece" has not even premiered yet, one thing is already certain: there will be a third season! Filming is scheduled to begin in Cape Town at the end of 2025.

One Piece Season 2: A New Adventure for the Straw Hat Pirates!

Off to a new adventure! The live-action adaptation of the famous anime and manga "One Piece" was a huge success for Netflix. It goes without saying that another season will follow in 2026. We'll tell you what you can look forward to in the new "One Piece" season!

The Plot of One Piece Season 2

The first season of "One Piece" focused on the East Blue saga, covering the first 53 episodes of the anime and the first 100 chapters of the manga. The second season focuses on the Alabasta saga, which comprises 117 chapters in the manga and 74 episodes in the anime. However, only part of this story is covered in season 2.

In the following, we will roughly describe the plot from the original – so there is a risk of spoilers! If you'd rather just find out about the new characters and their actors, it's best to skip straight to the next section.

At the beginning of the sequel, the Straw Hat Pirates finally reach the Grandline after a brief detour to Loguetown. Loguetown is the place where Gold Roger was executed. This is also where Luffy will meet Captain Smoker for the first time. On their journey, they discover some familiar places from the manga and anime, such as Rivers Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, the winter island of Drumm and the desert kingdom of Alabasta.

During their first journey through the Grandline, the young pirate crew encounters new enemies and allies in the original – two of whom later become part of the Straw Hat Pirates. The group is also drawn into the machinations of the Baroque Company, which is involved in a conspiracy surrounding the kingdom of Alabasta.

The kingdom is shaken by a serious political crisis. The Straw Hat Pirates meet Princess Vivi, who is trying to save her homeland from civil war. Behind the chaos is Sir Crocodile, the leader of the Baroque Company and a member of the Seven Warlords of the Seas. He plans to take power in Alabasta by turning the population against each other.

The Cast of the New One Piece Characters

The cast of the main characters naturally remains the same: 21-year-old Mexican Iñaki Godoy once again embodies the series hero Monkey D. Luffy. Emily Rudd is also back in her role as Nami, the Japanese Mackenyu as Zoro, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as ship's cook Sanji.

The Antagonists

Mr. Zero

The big antagonist of the second season will most likely be Mr. Zero, better known as Sir Crocodile. The leader of the Baroque company has eaten the sand fruit: This allows him to control sand and even dissolve himself into sand. If he touches other creatures, he can drain them of water until they are completely emaciated. The villain is played by the American Joe Manganiello. Most of you probably know him from "Spider-Man", "Magic Mike" or most recently "The Kill Room".

Ms. All Sunday

His number 2 is Miss All Sunday, alias Nico Robin. In her childhood she experienced a trauma: her home island Ohara was destroyed by the World Government because the scholars there were researching the forbidden "Lost History". Robin was the only survivor of this catastrophe and sought a new family after this experience. This led her to Sir Crocodile.

She ate the powers of the Hana Hana fruit. This enables her to make different parts of her body sprout in different places. This allows her to hold opponents from a distance, tie them up or even break bones without putting herself in danger. Nico Robin is played by the Russian actress Lera Abova.

Captain Smoker

Of course, the navy will once again play an important role in "One Piece" season 2. This time, the Straw Hat Gang will have to deal with Navy Captain Smoker. He is one of the most interesting characters early on in the books. He is a man who questions the rules of the navy when they do not conform to his own idea of justice.

Although he can come across as tough and unyielding, he has a strong sense of duty and is prepared to face the consequences of his actions. Smoker's characteristic gray area between naval discipline and moral self-responsibility makes him one of the most complex characters in "One Piece".

His powers come from the Smoke Fruit. This gives him the ability to turn his body into smoke and control it at will. This allows him to avoid attacks, bind enemies and suffocate them by enveloping them in smoke. Smoker also uses a weapon with which he can block the abilities of devil fruit users. The dreaded captain is played by British actor Callum Kerr.
