"House of the Dragon" ends after the fourth season

Filming for season 3 starts next year

The second season of "House of the Dragon" recently celebrated its grand finale. Expectations are high for the third season, which has already been confirmed and is due to go into production next year. But unfortunately there is also bad news, as season 4 will be the end.

During a press conference on Monday, at which the finale of the second season of "House of the Dragon" was discussed, showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal announced, according to Variety, that the "Game of Thrones" prequel will only run for two more seasons. Condal also confirmed that the third season is currently in pre-production and that filming is scheduled to start in early 2025.

When asked whether season 3 would also consist of eight episodes, Condal replied that the current narrative rhythm would be maintained. George R.R. Martin, the author of "The Song of Ice and Fire" and co-creator of "House of the Dragon", had previously stated on his personal blog that it would take at least four seasons with 10 episodes each to fully tell the "Dance of the Dragons" from his book "Fire & Blood".

But there is no reason to mourn: in addition to "House of the Dragon", we can also look forward to the spin-off "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" and a series about Aegon the Conqueror. We are excited!
