Spider-Man: Movie theater promotes Brand New Day with a quirky poster – and it goes viral

An employee at the movie theater decided to get creative

A poster for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is currently causing a stir online. What makes it special: It's not an official poster, but a hand-drawn one that looks anything but professional. Yet a movie theater in Canada is actually using it to promote the film, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

But how did this happen? As the poster explains, the "Famous Players" movie theater in Prince George, British Columbia, apparently never received the official movie posters. So the operators had to come up with something. Enter employee Drake Landon. He quickly got creative and came up with his very own interpretation of a "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" poster, as you can see in the following social media post:

Even the poster's creator is surprised

Landon drew inspiration from the similar-looking Spooderman meme, which was originally created as a parody of the popular Marvel superhero and took on a life of its own online. And Landon's "Brand New Day" poster is also proving very popular online. That said, the movie theater employee can't quite believe that his creation went viral. He told The Hollywood Reporter that the reactions to his work were "very unexpected." Landon is "kinda still not realizing how big it is."

Who knows – if the folks at Marvel had also relied on Landon's poster to promote their film, the blockbuster might have been even more successful. That said, given the overwhelming box office success of the new Spider-Man adventure, the makers of "Brand New Day" might just barely be able to handle that.

Brand New Day celebrates huge success

With "Brand New Day," the superhero proved once again that he continues to enjoy immense popularity with audiences. It set a record right from the start. At the domestic box office, the new "Spider-Man" blockbuster grossed $360 million after its first weekend. In doing so, the film surpassed the previous record-breaking debut of "Avengers: Endgame" (357 million) – and achieved the most successful opening of all time. The "Avengers" directors Anthony and Joe Russo took their dethronement in stride and congratulated the "Brand New Day" team led by director Destin Daniel Cretton with a creative Spider-Man image on social media:

At the global box office, "Brand New Day" has grossed a staggering $1.7 billion so far. This makes the "Spider-Man" blockbuster the most successful film of the year so far, ahead of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," "Toy Story 5," "Michael," and "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," all of which have also surpassed the billion-mark. "Brand New Day" is already ranked 10th among the highest-grossing films of all time worldwide. If this trend continues, the comic book adaptation could even end up in the top 3 by the end of its run.

In "Brand New Day," as the title suggests, a completely new chapter begins in Peter Parker's life. That's because the people around him have forgotten that he even exists – even those closest to his heart. In addition to its impressive box office success, the film was also well-received by many critics.
